The eco race

I watched this tonight on USA. It was courageous, it was horrific, it was dangerous and I felt sick at the end of it. Did anyone else see it? Started another thread because the other was getting long, hope nobody minds!

Hey Louisa, I didn't see it. I just popped in here before I head off to bed. I didn't realize that it was after 9pm. This new time just sneaks up on me...I'll talk to you tomorrow. Bye, Lisa

Hi, I just came in and saw your posts. It's an International race through Borneo. I have seen these tests of endurance before but this was different. There were about 70 odd teams I believe, mostly men but women also. They had to swim, bike, walk and do whatever was necessary to compete in the race. The conditions were terrible. So much rain and mud and LEECHES and the leeches were getting "everywhere"!!!!! Not your normal fat buggers, but long slinky ones that even penetrated clothing. The contestants were oozing blood in buckets! One poor guy, whilst biking at night, went clean into a sharp branch and pierced his lung. It was touch and go for a while but luckily they sent up a flair and help came but any longer and the guy would have died. Another biker, again in the dark, hit a sharp rock, went head over heels and cracked his skull. Most of the horror stories took place at night and they were all terrified of the wild life. The only light in the darkness was like a Davey lamp on their head. Real scary stuff!! One team is the American Playboy girls. Hats off to them, they are doing great! It's on again tonight, at nine I believe, on the USA channel.

Oh, i know what you mean now, it was called the Eco Challenge over here, some of the teams get pretty messed up on that, dont know how some survived it.

What I can't understand is how these people can put themselves through this type of punishment. I don't think there was a mention of a prize, but there might well be. Even teams that were disqualified for one reason or another, continued on with the challenge simply because they felt it tested their stamina and it was a case of pride!!! Huh? They just have to be mad!
