Seedpod amongst the weeds

Just an example of what too much insecticide will do.

poor seedpod. alas, it was probably THE one :(
lovely daylily, which one is that?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i haven't been able to make myself you isecticide but have mashed a ton of cats of all colors. (except occasional raid flying spray). that is a pretty daylily.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

The spray caused the seed pods to fall off? What did you use? I see nativehabitat recommends using a systemic rose food. Has anyone tried this for brugs? I hate using sprays -

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I get a systemic from Home Depot that works great, inside or out. Can't remember the name of it, and I am out right now. It isn't expensive. I've heard some people say that the systemic for roses has burned their plants. I bought some just in case I can't get to HD before I need the good stuff. Will try it on a couple to see what it does.

tiG, that is also, what I would instandly think *lol* It is not, what we have or know, but what we don`t have or don`t know, that play tricks with our minds :}

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Oh Eric, that's terrrible. I haven't had Merit or Avid cause any pods to fall that I know of, but pyrethrum did.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That sure is a pretty pink. Weeds are something I'm used to. Am going to do my best this year, but when the heat hits, I'm a gonner or the hoe is.

Cala, I've tried to find Merit or Avid in small amounts, but have only found quart size. That stuff is really expensive for the home gardener. If you happen to know of a place that sells the 8 oz. size, I'd be interested.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Oh no,I just bought a big container of rose systemic cause I had thought I saw someone post that that stuff was the best to use.haven't tried it yet.Should I???

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

CC, I'm going to try it anyway. Maybe those people didn't use it right. I've used it on other things with no problem. I don't think it will kill them. I believe it was the fertilizer in it that was the problem. Wish I could remember where I read those posts. Another forum, for sure.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

thats why I thought it would be great, kill the bugs and fertilize at the same time!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

CC, I have been checking another forum for posts and the Bayer brand seems to be okay. That is what I have, just by luck, and I'm going to try it. Right now I don't seem to have a problem, but I've taken all my brugs outside and they don't like it cool. I'll just make sure that I don't get it next to the stalk or trunk.

CC,
Brugie is right about the Bayer brand as I have experimented with that with very good results. I just like to switch things up from time to time and with bad results most times. Something about insects possibly getting a tolerance to a single type of insecticide....

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

brugie, what is the 'good stuff' from Home Depot?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

people often times, think more is better. na ahh! big mistake. this is the reason why manufacturers give instructions... it is vital to follow those instructions as am pretty sure, the manufacturers have tested those products for its proper use. i believe if the manufacturer's suggested proportion, there should not be any problem using any fertilizer or pesticide products.

tiG... if not mistaken, Brugie is referring to the Bayer's Advanced Garden 2-in-1 sytemic Rose and Flower care [12-18-6]. comes in 5 lbs. container. there are also smaller sizes, if not mistaken.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

tiG, the systemic that I get at Home Depot can't be named by me right now. I know it when I see it and I'm totally out at this time. Maybe I can find out and let you know later. Will check with Renee. She uses it too.

Later.....

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Its probably Imidacloprid.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

my friend just named something called BT, bacillus something that is enviro friendly and kills bugs that eat plants, but doesn't harm birds/other wildlife. (i've been squashing cats, i have a few brugs with lots of holess in them).
i know i should use something, but i enjoy the lizards on my brugs, and grandpa spiders and lady bugs....

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

The one I bought is by BONIDE,Systemic Rose and Flower Care,8-12-4,$11.29 for 5 lbs.....

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

arlene, its Bacillus thuringensis and only for caterpillars.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Okay, just got an email from Renee and the systemic I'm talking about is made by Bonide, but it is just an insecticide, no fertilizer added. It is in a plastic container about the size of a pint jar. I don't remember what I paid for it, but around $6.00 I think.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

thanks, going out tomorrow, so having the right name is great!!! works for white flies and aphids, right?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

tiG, I don't really know because I only have mites here. I basically will use this in the house. Outside I have other methods of dealing with critters. Last year I didn't have to spray one time. It was great. I have too many plants to use the systemic outside now anyway. It takes more than one dose of it in a season, and I think it would be kind of expensive to use outside. I stick to my Sevin and some of the special sprays I have purchased. Poyola might be spelled wrong, works great. I also use Mavrik and
Enstar II.

Sorry it took so long to get the email to you. Lost my connection and couldn't get back on line.
