Which is the better pot

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

I just got this Brug. versicolor 'Aphrodite' sent from a mail order firm today. You have all got me hooked on this plant.
My question is folks: I have two pots, and since this plant will become quite large, hopefully, should I plant it in the smaller first of all, and then pot up to the larger if he gets bigger? Or is the smaller pot big enough for this plant?
Thank you in advance.

I would personally put it in the larger pot. Do you have a link for that hybrid in bloom?

I don't have one directly, but I can scan it out of the catalogue and post it.
It is the white Brug.

I thought with a name like Aphrodite it would be pink. Of course Aphrodite does remind one best of the foam on the ocean from which she was born if memory serves me correctly.

Brugmansia,
Did you see the scanned pic on the other thread?
I'll have to be careful with this one so that I can send you all some pics of my lovely Brug., although I don't think I'll EVER be able to get anywhere near to you experts.
This is my first ever attempt at growing one. *shakes in fear* ;-)

Wintermoor,
Any pics I take that actually look descent were selected out of many more that were unrecognizable. Its a luck game with me when it comes to pictures with me.

Thats a good looking cutting I have and have seem some not as nice if fact I think others will agree we have all kill a few in out time. BTW the difference between professional photographer and a amathure is the fact you neve see all the bad pic the pro made.

The garden centre from which I bought the plant didn't say if it was photogenic or not... *blast*, I should have made sure it would smile for a photo ;-))

Put it in the next size up pot..it takes a long time for the plant to fill the pot with roots in the very large pot and the top will grow more slowly that way..you can move it up again later.

The top will actually grow faster in a larger pot. I posted a picture to show this earlier as I actually experimented with this. The smaller the pot the slower the growth. Not to mention repotting stresses the plant each time and causes a delay in growth each time you must repot.

i agree with brugman. course a lot of things are different in florida and cold states/countries, and he has been my teacher. i put 2 of the same cuttings in the diferent size pot in december and 6 weeks later the one in the larger pot was 1/2 again as big. the one problem i have seen in plants i bought over the net from earle is that being in such little pots they seemed stunted, took them a while to start growing. next time i'll soak them and remove the soil as if i were going to mail them before i plant.

Brugman, speaking of which, i'm thinking of buying an aurea gold from earle..... seems to be a good parent.....what do you think?

FSH, TX

I'd have to agree, but then I like aurea's. Of course aurea yellow gold is nice as well.

Arlene,
Sure do buy one from Earl then I can get a cutting from you....LOL...mine died.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Gloria, do you still have the pink aurea?
Arlene, I asked Earl face to face if he had any aureas and he said he didn't. I know he has them on his web site, but if you've ever been there....well, since he didn't think he had any, I wouldn't buy one online.

Tig,
Just because someone doesn't have any aurea's for sale at the moment doesn't mean they don't have one or two that are not for sale. Could be he orders from another nursery to fill his orders as well. Just think of it this way...Wal-mart doesn't actually propagate, they just purchase from other nurseries that do.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i ordered, will find out. i don't think he ever listed a pink and the yellow/gold doesn't have an order thingie, will ask when he emails.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I just got an order from Earl last week. I got suaveolens gold, Kyle's Giant white, Knightii, and Enchanted double white.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Eric, I certainly understand that he could have some in the back for his use.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i ordered aurea gold and the aurea yellow gold. now brugman, your secrets...what have you crossed these with so i can do something different! i should surely do all my double whites, would like to have a nice double yellow.
tig, i take it his organizatinal skills are on par with mine? it they aren't the right ones i'll hold him accountable, but figure i'll give it a shot.

I ordered several from him last year and the Valley White ended up being Frosty Pink. I sent him a picture and he sent me another brug. I thought he was really nice about taking care of it. This winter I wrote and asked if he had the aurea pink, and he replied that he did not, but did have the yellow. Hope you get them Arlene. I have to say right now that some of the seedlings that I have from Eric's seeds are the strongest plants I think I've ever seen. This seed was marked Isabella X Pink?. Any idea what it might be Eric. Maybe Pink Aurea. This was the first seed you sent to tiG last fall and she shared a few with me. The leaves are very large and fat. The plants are staying rather short right now, but haven't had much time outside. Just thought maybe you could help me out with this one. Sorry, didn't mean to change the subject of the thread.

arlene, worse than that, his organizational skills seem to be on par with mine!!!!
