contest judges?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

we need to have some volunteers to be judges in the Brugmansia/Datura contest.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

maybe the winners of last years contest? just a thought.

I nominate our resident experts. Brugman, Eclipse and Monika. Of course by saying that I realize that their standards are incredibly high. What have I said? If I'm going to submit anything I'm going to need a judge with standards in low places.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

no, I want them to enter!!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Maybe it should be someone who isn't close to those who frequent this forum. Maybe someone most of the contestants don't know well. Just a thought.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I was kindof hoping it would be someone who frequents the forums :) at least someone who knows a brug. LOL!!! hmm....we might have to judge ourselves! maybe some will step up to the plate.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I can try to help, but I think Snow should have the opportunity to enter since she just got into brugs this year. One thing I won't do is be in charge of anything. I have lost my short term memory :-), and would forget to do something and everyone would be upset with me. I'm a follower, not a leader. Okay, now how much confidence would you have in someone like me to judge some photos? Scary, isn't it? :-) I would do my best, but if you come up with others that would fill the bill, please go for it. Would not hurt my feelings a bit. I don't plan on entering the contest either. Time for someone else to have fun with it. Will just bore you to death with my pictures on the forum.

I would also be willing to give it a try, as I will not be entering anything.

Why couldn't we all vote on the entries but not for our selfs and most votes win????

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

irish, we could do that, but with all the DG members, it would be really hard to know when the voting was over. We could do that with contributors to this forum, but what about people who read and dont' post? and then there are the newbies that join up before fall.
We just need 3 judges. I'll be one, if that's okay with y'all. and Shirley, we'd be honored to have you as a judge. one more?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

If there is a deadline, votes would end then. don't know how much work that would be for dave. i would judge the datura because (sorry...i really don't like them very much). i could be impartial on best pic for those. i might enter brug contest, but i think its a given that monika, kyle or eric will win there.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Its best that the contest judges not be known..but likewise not eligible to enter.by not knowing who the judges are there is no animosity towards their decisions.Like entering the Pillsbury bakeoff!LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That is what I thought too, but where are we going to find these people? Can Dave help us out on this one? He knows everyone and I'm sure could ask some people to judge for the contest and no one entering would have to know who it was.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

I am looking forward to seeing all the entries, I had a faboulous time last year drooling over all those marvelous photos, the problem would be to narrow it down to just one or two selections, God help the judges!!!

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Am i right in thinking, because it's a photography contest, it doesn't really matter if the judges know much about brugs or not? Maybe one of the judges could be an Artist or photographer? That way they'd be looking at the overall photo instead of the brug itself! But it would be nice if one of the judges was from Europe, one was from America and the other was from somewhere else!

Is there any guidlines (or rules) for this competition? What i mean is, can photos be edited etc? It's not that this is what i'm planning to do...But some sort of standards and guidlines might make things a bit clearer for the entrants! Also, when the judges are picked..it might be good if they could post a list of what they'll be looking for in a winning photo!

Sorry if i've waffled a bit much. Got a bit carried away!

All the best,

Bruno

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

don't want to give you guys the wrong impression. It's just a fun little contest, yes, we do take our brugs serious, but it's mostly for fun. Biggest prize will be a ribbon and the honor. There are lots of other contests going on at Dave's right now, all ending in the fall. Can't put this on Dave, he's already entered the contest!!
no, the pictures shouldn't be doctored. in all fairness:)
it's not only for photography, but that is very important. also best display would factor in, in fact, most of the other contests have 4 or 5 categories. any suggestions?

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I think we should use the same guide lines as last year and categories.

Yes, like tiG said, it's all just fun and the reward will likely be "bragging rights". No doctored images, definitely!

Last year the judges were, if memory serves, Zanymuse, Horseshoe, and myself.

I probably will NOT be entering the contest. The picture that's there now is going to be removed in a little while. So, I'll be the first one to step forward as a judge. :)

The judges should be willing to spend a little time discussing with the other judges their findings, and should have some knowledge of brugs. It'll be fun and the main thing is we'll collect a hundred or so very cool photos for everyone's enjoyment.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well dave, then you, Shirley and me? if anyone has any objections to any of us as judges, please contact us or Dave?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Dave, I just took a look at the picture, and it's gorgeous!! great shot.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

you guys need to enter. i move you go to the general topic or another forum and ask for judges.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Is there anyway that the survey thing thats on the right side could be used for voting? That way everyone can enter....

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

CC, there are too many contests going on to use the survey.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hey tiG, maybe we can put our pictures in with the other contest pictures anyway, so everyone can go there to see what we are doing too. Just don't have to vote on ours. I'd like to see you be able to enter pictures. I'm sure there will be lots of new stuff in your brug beds this year too.

Maybe we could have two contests. One for USA and one for Can. and Europe. We could trade judges. USA for their contest and them for ours. Just a thought....I know, pretty lame, but I do have good days too!! :-)

ms brugie, you have to defend your title...you just can't be a judge.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene,

I love entering these contests, but I did win a couple of prizes last year and I'm kinda glad I did it last year. The reason being that I think the competition will be even tougher this year. It would be pretty hard saying no to any brug bloom. I think they are all pretty. I hope everyone enters a photo or more and that everyone has a good time, win or lose.

By the way, I don't think it is a given than Eric, Kyle, or Monika will win. We have some great photographers out there with some very pretty brugs and remember, it might also include what surrounds your brug to make a complete picture. So, warm up your camera and get ready to post a picture or two of some of your beauties. Later......S

Ms Brugie, I can't wait to see all the pics from everyone! actually, i can't wait to be able to walk out at night and visit with my own blooms either. I hope everyone including you and tig post a lot of pics. never get enough of the brug pics.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

I'm with Arlene, never get enough brug pics

FSH, TX

Brugie,
Your quite right. With the pictures I take you'll be happy to be able to say you see more than just a blur. Of course I could tell everyone thats the look I was going for. Isn't the blurred look in this year?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Eric, I think you are taking some very good pictures. I just don't want people to think that the winner is pre-determined and then they won't enter their pictures. My guess is as good as yours as to who will win the contest this year. I'm just glad I was lucky last year because I think it will be a lot tougher this year. Will make everyone work harder for the best picture. :-) Good luck to you and everyone else who enters. I think it will be a lot of fun and I hope there are more pictures and entrants this year.

PS Eric, why not a blurred look? People do all kinds of strange things with cameras anymore and if we don't know that is was just an accident.....well, who knows!!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I have a question? How many pictures are permitted for one person? Just one or a few more?

This question is maybe a little way out of the line (as some of you know me best :} ). I have seen a link to a page called Brugpic forum. Is this the upload page for the contest or a page to upload future images?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

that was an old forum that was for the first contest. it's not longer available Tonny.
Monika, there is no limit, or there wasn't last year, wouldn't think that would change. and the great thing is that our contest page becomes our little library of images.

No Limit at all! Upload 1 or upload 1,000. :)

Click Contests in the menu to access the upload area.
