Plumeria inAustralia

For those of you interested in Plumeria note the size of the one my Mom is standing under.

Oh my gosh!! And I'm complaining about the size of these things I have in the house. I'm almost sure I won't be keeping them next winter. One is already 3 ft. tall and a foot and a half wide. Aren't they pretty at that size though and I'll bet your mom was enjoying the fragrance while standing there too.

Woweeeee! That's huge. I ordered a pink one last year along with a Dwarf Pink Hawaii Banana and they were in sad shape when I got them and died within a week. The company just sent me two more replacements and when I opened the box the top of Plumeria was rotted and the banana was black and dried up. I could'nt believe it. This time I sent the company a picture of what I received.I got an apology and an excuse that it looked like the heat got them. Wonder what shape their plants are in when they ship in the summer.

A friend of mine in Australia just shipped in about 50 new colors of plumeria into Australia..leaglly..thru customs. Now Australia will have many new cultivars to grow.

All of mine are twigs compared to those. I would have a crick in my neck looking at them all of the time.
Snowhermit, I ordered from Scott this year and got great stalks. They are all doing very well. They sell selected hybrids like Julie Moragne, Jeannie Moragne, Mary Moragne, Lie Rainbow, Kauka Wilder, and Kimo. Their prices are very reasonable.

I have one called Mango Blush....came from a friend in Houston..has never bloomed in 7 years..but guess what I found last week?? BUDS!! yippee!

After see those Plumeria I think I'm going to keep mine covered...LOL
I had one to bloom Kyle but it was a couple of years ago...I just keep them to make myself think what if. :)

I had one bloom in the house this winter and another one is budding now. My question is: Do I cut anything off after it is through blooming? It has started another branch, but wondered if I should cut the old bud branch area off.

Shirley,
I'm no way a Plumeria expert but I believe I'd leave it alone.

Thanks Gloria,

I don't think these are going to be a plant that I want to keep growing. Just have to wait and see if they surprise me this summer. If I just didn't have to dig everything up and keep it in the house, I'd be a happy camper.

Shirley,
I have to bring mine in too...these guys don't like cold weather at all.

Glory feed your Bloom booster fertilizer (high Phosphorus) every two weeks in summer and keep them in full sun, you'll get flowers. I have some types that bloom every year without feeding much..variety has a lot to do with blooming qualities. :-)

Brugie...the stem will fall off on its own when its done blooming.Sometimes additional flowers will form on the old stem.

the only thing i trim in the growing season are the leaves to make light and air circulation. i think brugs and plumeria have a lot in common only you can wrap the plumeria in paper and winter them in a closet. but i want one that big. it would look great in my yard.

Thanks Kyle, and I didn't know about the Bloom Booster either. Was just giving them Peters.

I almost flipped when I saw that.I looked at mine and have decieded to by it a scarf to cover up its nakedness,LOL.Mine is still blooming and I'm glad someone Kyle answered the question on what to do with the stalk after its done.I have 2 smaller ones, wonder if they'll bloom.

Kyle,
I'll try the bloom buster...sounds just like what it needs.

CC,
I have about 5 of these things and they all need scarves. LOL

Will my Plumeria that I just got live if I cut the rotted top off of it before it travels lower or is it doomed to die?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

SH cut cleanly just below the rot area down to where its still green.and let it dry for a few days..it may branch out at the cut and develop a new top.

Thank you. I'll do that tomorrow.
