Coconut oil, its not just an antiviral
My experience with oily insecticides have ended several times in a desaster. The oil closes the tiny holes underneath the leaves, which are necessary for evaporating. Even used in the shade, I lost several valuable plants. I use oily insecticides only during overwintering, when needed.
There was a biological wave especially in Germany and it was one of these products, that killed my plants.
I've used neem oil and safer soap with good results. As with everything I imagine it is far smarter to test in various concentrations and on cuttings of a hybrid rather than the original and only. I have killed a few of mine with Ga-3. The GA-3 made my plants grow so fast that I started spraying it a bit more regularly than was perhaps necessary. I found out that yellowing leaves sprayed with GA-3 would turn green again and then not fall of. I also found that when the cold came those hybrids treated with GA-3 did not come back from the roots and the stem was decidly more mushy than their counterparts that were allowed to grow normally. To make a long story short, those I had treated with GA-3 regularly all died. Those that were only treated once or twice all year lived.
I know, I am forever the optomist. Worse thing that can happen though is to try and fail. If you never try though....One idea though, perhaps you could spray the tops of the leaves only with this mixture so the stomata on the undersides of the leaf don't get closed up? I imagine it would still render some of its insecticidal properties as many insects tend to eat both sides of the leaf. Perhaps spray the undersides of the leaf with something else...I know, I ramble. Just trying to think of a way to keep our lil Brugies virus free longer.

Eric... if u are interested in making ur own coconut oil, buy a can of Chaokoh coconut milk. place in coconut milk in a frying pan, heat to a boil briskly to allow allow all the liquid to dissipate. then simmer slowly and the coconut oil will begin to appear. simmer until the residue is lightly browned and u attained all the oil u wish to get out of that can of coconut milk. the browned residue is also edible, used to top rice cakes.

the coconut leaves are used in the Phil. as roofing and nipa hut [houses in the rural areas of the county] side walls. the pulp inside the coconut tree is edible commonly known as coconut palm heart - very nice in making eggrolls :D! ma vie
