tiny creepers for the paths

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

I am open to all suggestions - I have some mother of thyme and I'm looking for similar tiny plants to help me keep the weeds out of the spaces between the rocks. I'm letting some little weeds "have their way" with a couple of spots and some ajuga that's gone wild. I'm looking for some of the little dianthus and ????

thanks in advance - I know you all will have some goodies to tell me about!

Kathleen: Many of the deltoide dianthus are mat forming. There is one called "Flashing Lights" that is quite nice. The flowers are red. However, when it flower, it would still be tickling your calf if it's in a pathway. Have you considered pennyroyal or Roman chamomile. Both are quite fragrant when mown or walked upon, and are probably perennial in your area. There is also a creeping veronica that stays quite small.

In addition to WZ's great ideas, Mentha requienii - Corsican Mint is a great tiny, tiny creeper and smells lovely (aquired taste apparently) although maybe not hardy enough for your area. Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) and Thymes are traditionally grown in paths here, Elfin is a lovely cultivar. Feverfew does surprisingly well in paving cracks and happily reseeds.

Androsace, Sempervivum, Sedum, Viola, Armeria, Veronica prostrata, Campanula cochleariifolia and Phlox make great showy plants in the patches where you aren't going to walk so often.
