witchhazel sprouted!!!!!!!!!!

I am so upset. I jumped the gun here. what i thought was the witch hazel was just a weed. still waiting on it to sprout.

I'm confused. Sounds like you have direct seeded it. Is that right?

Witch Hazel is a slow germinator that requires at least 8 weeks of cold conditioning before it will sprout. It's best to start them in an overwintering flat, then transplant the seedlings to individual 1-gallon pots. Let them grow in those pots at least a year before transplanting to the garden.

The seedlings are quite vigorous, but prefer a sandy, dryish soil.

When your witch hazel sprouts, beware of bunnies!!!!!!!! They have eaten my witch hazels to the ground so often they have mostly died. Make sure you protect it completely until it is big enough to withstand some bunny nibbling.
