Stigma question

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Last week I was out pollinating what flowers I had like a busy bee. This week the spent flowers are starting to fall off.The anthers come off with the dead flower. All that is left on the plant is the calyx with a long thingy with the stigma on the end of it. Is this normal and how long does the long thingy with the stigma stay attached?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

SH..thats normal..it will keep the stigma on for a few days then it will fall off.If the cross took the ovary will swell in a few days..if the flower stem stays green in a week it meanbs it took too!JUST DON"T TOUCH IT!!!!LOL leave it alone. :-)

Kyle, Does the calyx fall off too or does that stay on?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Snow, that depends on the species, CG stays on, EP, FP and JP fall off. Suaveolens does both.

Cala, It's Isabella and Solid Gold. So far the flowers have fallen off but the calyx and stigma are still attached.

Thanks Kyle and Cala.
It's so hard not to peek inside especially since I have my trusty magnifying glass out there, but I promise Kyle I won't touch it. LOL

Snow, I touched my Candida pod and it fell off, so do what Kyle says. Remember when grandma said if we scratch it, it will fall off?? well same applies to seed pods I guess, but you know me, couldn't keep my hands off.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

OK Cala. I now know what you went through when you wanted to peek in those seed pods. LOL. I'll just HAVE to keep my cotton pickin fingers off of them. Guess I'll just take up staring at the flower stem to see if it stays green.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Snow, that will suffice for a while!! Hopefully you will be busy this summer with pollinating others and won't have time to pick at them. It's when there isn't anything to do in the winter that really gets one wanting to peek at the seeds.

SH and Cala...LEAVE THOSE PODS ALONE!!!! LOL :-)

Cala,
I know what you mean, I have a seed pod on my Golden Lady and it think it's time for it to be ready but it's not.....it's killing me. LOL

Calla stop pinching! I have a pod on my versi peach that is taunting me!Even my Dh is laughing at me cause I just stare at it.It hasn't moved. Its the only one I havn't moved outside cause I'll die if some creature knocks it off.By the way ,it got to 87 today! Florida came to ME!
