The fertilizer Stickstoff (Nitrate) has two components in Germany:
Nitrat - nitrate
sulphate of Ammonia
Salpeter: salpetre, nitrogenous potassium, nitre.
Calcium added is Kalksalpeter.
Which are the correct words?
Kyle, thats what my smart book said
Monika..saltpeter in USA is potassium nitrate. It makes plants greener because potassium is crucial to chlorophyll production in the cells of plants. So I use saltpeter to stimulate seed germination in peppers..and to green up plants. I also use Epsom salts to green up plants in the same way.Epsom salts are easier to get here.
Eclipse . . how do you use your Epson salts? Do you dilute it in water and just spray the leaves or do you put it on the soil as is or do you dilute with water and put on the soil? A lot of questions but I need details. I have only heard of diluting 1 tbl to 1 gal water and spraying leaves. Is there another way such as any of the above?
I mix mine in water and then water the plants...wisteria love this!
So its Calcium potassium nitrate, I feed my plants with.
I add another fertilizer to it with 0-15-35-5Mg plus minors.
I believe, the result looks pretty good.
I just spread about two tablespoons of epaom salts onto the soil of a 15 gal pot and water it in..it dissolves instantly. :-) Monika..its strange that your water source has no calcium already in it.Could be a geographic thing.
We have very soft water. It needs only a teaspoon of soap of 10l water to make much foam. I have to be very careful with my washing machine. One table spoon too much and the foam will come through all openings.
The mountain range is the largest volcanic area in Europe.
The ground is basaltic with other eruptive material and rocks.
But there are many more regions in Germany with soft water.
50km away, in the Taunus, another mountain range, the water has a hardiness up to 30 GH, but ph 7. I know it, I lived there for a while and my Brugmansias loved the water. There, I used a fertilizer with much sulphate ammonia. The ph of the soil in the pots was always around 7. But here, I have problems adding enough calcium to the water. I had pots with soil, that did not have more than 3 - 4 ph. The Brugmansias in these pots didnt look very happy. So I have to be always be alert to keep the ph at 7.
