Flowers of Luminosa and Rosie

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Rosies color on this picture is a little bit darker in natura, but you see the white star like markings inside the flowers. The flowers are of thick and waxy constistence. Unfortunatley, she has the same growth habit of Mom Rothkirch. Rosie is a parent of Sarah.

Luminosas color is almost like in natura. She gives her rich color to her offspring, She is a parent of Fandango and Anouschka.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Wow,could you imagine having to look at all those gorgeous brugs and have to say, that one stays, that one goes,etc....And then get a bunch as gorgeous as those two and say OK,they stay, some of the others gotta go.....I love bi-colors!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Oh Monika, It's beautiful. I love the color.

Those are absolutely stunning, Monika. I love the star shape inside of Rosie.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Ok - I think I need a Luminosa. And the entire R-series. Oh dear. This is never ending isn't it?
What's wrong with Rothkirch's growth habit?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Very unique. I love it.

Hamilton, Canada

WOW!!

Rothkirch grows like a weeping willow, Liz. Starting with the Y the branches grow almost horizontal and then hang down. The flowers come on thin branches. A Rothkirch can grow under good cultivation conditions up to a diameter of 5 -6m.
The plant doesnt like pruning at all. The mass of flowers will be lesser each year, when pruned. Since I do not have so much space in my GH, I root about every two years young plants. I still have the starter plant, but she has only one wooden branch left from the flowering region. I use the upcoming sprouts for cuttings. My double pink,Rosa Zauber, being a Rothkirch daughter, has almost the same growth. This is why I keep telling you all, they need to be improved.

Beautiful Monika.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

My goodness - that's like 18ft wide. How tall does it get? I'd hate to see what happens to that one in a wind storm.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Rosa Zauber was 3.50m tall. I rooted the flowering region and tied the branches together for a V. Rothkirch can easy grow up to 4 - 5m. It really looks like a little bit deformed weeping willow. The sprouts, I use for rooting, are short. They Y at about 60 - 70cm. Rothkirch has the largest flower of the species aurea. They are beautiful.

Monika, Do you think the aurea x Rothkirch seeds will be similar or different? They are very hairy and quite robust.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I dont know. It said: aurea x Rothkirch. So Rothkirch was the pollinator. I have seen the growth habit of Rothkirch in her offspring, when it was the mother plant, but never in plants, where it was only Pollinator.

Well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see. They're doing great and hopefully I'll get some nice pinks.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Be patient. B. aurea are good growers. Hope you dont have to cut a hole in your new conservatory! LOL

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Monika, it is lovely and I appreciate all the information on the Rothkirch. You are always so helpful and so patient to answer all our questions.

Monika, as soon as it's warm enough to put them outside, I may have to if they're going to grow higher than 12 feet. I'm thinking that White Pearl x Big is going to get very large also. It's already close to 3 feet from a December seedling and the leaves are very large. Both are extremely healthy too. Thanks again.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Monika, another gorgeous brug. I love the vibrant colors.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I keep my fingers crossed, that you will get some fine hybrids out of these seeds.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Whiskers and Luminosa have much in common, with the exception of the color.

Monika,
Another Beauty!!!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Glory, the cross is just vice versa of whiskers. CG x aurea Gold. Whiskers aurea Gold x CG

FSH, TX

Monika,
If those two are the vice versa crosses of each other...what do you think about crossing those two together?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

CG has too many genes of suav. I use Luminosa for breeding, but avoid any brug with suav. heritage. Whiskers too brings suav. genes, I doubt, if it will bring be anything new.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

this is my dream color brug.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Mine too! Someday?............

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Don't you just love all the info?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I can't take anymore beauty! LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh my. I don't even know what to say anymore. These flowers are just so beautiful. This is one I'd love to have. Shoot, I'd love to have them all.

I found it interesting to read Monikas description of the growth of Rothkirch. I have a seedling of 'L'Amour x Charles Grimaldi (former 'Golden hybrid), that also have weeping branches. It blooms good, but I have no idea, how to bring it into the wintergarden in one piece. Its about 3 meters broad now.

Luminosa = Charles Grimaldi (listed as yellow) x Goldenes Kornett (gold/yellow/Orange)= Orange flower. However, if you look at the facts. Charles Grimaldi is Dr.Suess x Frosty Pink. For me, this tells us that Charles Grimaldi has a double helping of suaveolens genes.... one helping from each side of the fence as a cubensis like Dr. Suess also carries suaveolens genes. Frosty Pink of course has suaveolens genes. Either way, Luminosa is one beautiful hybrid. I would like to point out though that if Goldenes Kornett is merely a pure yellow or merely a yellow with white genes... then orange would be impossible to get from such a cross as Charles Grimaldi x Goldenes Kornett unless of course we were to speculate that orange was merely a cumulative effect of the genes for yellow.

Further explained in an effort to make sure I understand you correctly Monika.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Monika, you have grown some awsome plants, which I am sure takes diligence and patience, as well as love and care.. your efforts show in these blooms.. .. try to hang on to that flowering branch! Debra

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Luminosa has the rich golden yellow color from CG. Seedlings I grew with Goldenes Kornett as pod parent or pollen parent but another hybrid than CG were plain Yellows.
I lost Ocre to SB or I would have also tried a cross with the GK.

Brussels, Belgium

I have made many plans for Goldenes Kornett as she is my main seed setter and pollen donator and will continue to be so for some time. I am hopeful of many of these crosses and I will back cross these to Goldenes Kornett to hopefully uncover more of what Goldenes Kornett has hidden in her pool. I will also be increasing the genetic diversity of the aurea gene pool by continuing to work with pure aurea x pure aurea as well. I like the orange that I see in Goldenes Kornett, but I think a few back crosses would bring out the orange a lot more. Of course the easy route would be to cross to a nice Double orange like Langenbuscher Garten of which I have been deeply impressed with or even to Luminosa as she does seem to show orange as well at times. I applaud your work Monika. You have made many strides and contributed much. I admit I can't always easily follow what you are trying to teach us, but you have taught and inspired us all in some shape or fashion.

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

Monika, Congratulations on this gorgeous beauty! I love the star-look inside her blooms.
