Huge leaves

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

This is the leaf of versi Peach x Butterfly that I planted from seed the end of Dec. It has a huge stalk and the leaves are 10" x 16" and the plant has grown to 4ft high. It's quickly outgrowing the other Brugs in the GH. I'm hoping it will flower this year.

The Preissel book says that aureas sometimes have huge leaves - Butterfly is an aurea isn't it?

Snow, you have the most beautiful plants. i'd say you'll have blooms before you know it.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Snow, I have some seedlings that have leaves like that. I keep cutting them off so I can see where to water.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Butterfly is an aurea hybrid..so that explains the larger leaves..and toothed edges on further hybrids.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

according to my note's butterfly is a child of rothkirch and ocre? where's monica? thinking candida, i am partial to those.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Arlene and Cala, you've got the sisters to this one. I hope one of us comes up with a fantastic flower.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

I'm sure we will. mine is adjusting to being in the ground, hoping it will catch up with its sis soon.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

It will outgrow mine in no time when it gets established.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Snow, you really have some pretty plants. It is amazing how you have kept them through the cold weather where you live. And I cannot get over all the blooms that you are having. I bet that you cannot wait to get up in the morning to see what is going on outside in the greenhouse!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

gee, i think i'll get a flash light and go look at mine! i do have a FP with a bloom on it,lol, and buds coming on a few.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

You may have all the blooms you want by Prom time if they are moving along and budding already. I can just see you out there with your flashlight. Do you have close neighbors? :-)

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Ms Brugie, no close neighbors. they look really good, all those top leaves standing straight up folded around the new leaves, even on some small seedlings. i think brugs like cool nights too. gotta find camedia software for an old olympus digital camera, can't find the CD and DDs computer crashed, can't upload pics....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yes, we have to see pictures of your place this year with all those brugs, cannas, bananas, etc. Will be just beautiful.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Oh Arlene, You've got to find a way to post pictures.Your yard should look like a tropical paradise this year.

Snow,
Whisker, Jessie Nole, Becca Lynn all have large serrated leaves and they are Aurea Gold Hybrids.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Glory, they are beautiful too. whiskers and JN leaves are beautiful all by themselves! btw, how is baby culebra?

Arlene,
Baby Culebra looks rather good considering the conditions it had to live under the last two weeks. LOL No, Ronbob did a great job keeping my plants alive but couldn't get him to pull out the weeds in the beds in the yard.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Gloria, have any of whiskers kids been white? and do you have the real charles grimaldi that doesn't have serrated leaves?

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Gloria. . my Becca Lynn is the largest of all the plants. It has very large leaves and they are beautiful with the serration and it towers above all others, including Whiskers. I can hardly wait for it to bloom along with all my others.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Glory, Yes, they do have very beautiful leaves. I posted a picture of your Whiskers a few days ago because I thought it was so pretty. I've got my fingers crossed they will bloom this year.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Snow, you did a much better job with your plants than I did with mine.I moved a bunch of the brugs outside for a while durring this warm up.Suppose to get cold again by next weekend, but since they are all striped of their leaves figured I should get them use to the outdoors.Plus I turned the hose on them, gave them a good drench, and sprayed the bare-necket leaves real well.Alot of the seedlings are not getting enough light in the house and not growing straight.Gotta stake then and give them more light.Work is progressing on the greenhouse. At a snails pace........

Arlene,
So far none of Whiskers kids have been white but with all the Whiskers seedlings I have maybe one will be white.

I think my Charles G. has serrated leaves...tell me more about the Charley with smooth leaves....never heard of that one.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

You probably have never seen the leaves of Rosie.
The leaves of the flowering region are already large and serrated, but in the leaves of the growing zone, I am afraid Kyle could play: search for me and we never find him unless somebody searches for legs and feet.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Glory.... good to have you back... I was realy confussed when every was saying that Charles Grimaldi had smooth leaves and wiskers has serrated leaves....The ones I got marked CG from you have a large serrated leaf and what I had marked wiskers had some serrated leaves but mostly smooth. Hopping you can set me straight. one more question can you cross a CG with another CG??? I have a seed pod on what I thought was wiskers and crossed it with what I thought was CG and now I think they are both CG but now I don't know???

Glory, I got a plant from you marked Jutner Orange (smooth leaves). That would be Charles Grimaldi, right? I'm sure it was from you because the tag was a mini blind piece. Will double check it tomorrow since it is outside right now and it is dark.

Had two of them and must have mailed the other one to a friend along with the tag. The one that is left just has one of my tags in it.

Gloria, you must have missed the posting about CG having smooth leaves, and Dr Seuss having serrated. If you have CG with serrated leaves, it isn't. per Kyle

Pete...you can cross a CG x ? to another pure CG but you can't cross a pure CG to another pure CG.

I more confused now on the Charles G then ever....so what I know as Charles G. is really Dr Suess...correct? I just noticed a small Charles that had both type leaves on it...smooth and serrated....guess I'll just have to wait and see what type of leaves my Charley has.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks Gloria... I was thinking on those lines but wasn't sure
Pete
