Does versi Alba bud differently than other Brugs? While moving plants around in the GH noticed this bud right on the top of the stalk. Also found a bud forming on the suaveolens Variegata in the same way. The Isabella, SG and Ins. Pink all formed Y's which branched out and the buds formed on these branches but these other two haven't Y'd yet.I'm confused.
Bud without Y
Maybe that bud formed right between where the Y is going to begin. I've had that happen before. They sure look healthy Snow!!
Thanks Shirley. Maybe that is what it is. I found other buds forming on a Sang, Jean Pasko, and Sunray but those have formed Y's. I'll have to get the magnifying glass out tomorrow. These old eyes aren't as good as they used to be.
Snow you have buds on your sang?!!!
Yeah Snow, a Sang? How old is it? Mine is getting quite large, but I hadn't even thought to be watching for buds yet. Mine was started from seed last fall, late.
S.
Snow, your plants are beautiful!!
Poppy, They are from the seed you sent me. All five seeds sprouted on 1/4. So far I've only found buds on one of them.
Brugie, Check yours out. I wasn't expecting the Sang to have buds but when I found buds on some other plants I started checking them all. LOL
Thanks Cala. They are growing so big though and I still have six more weeks before they can go outside. DH took the last table out of the GH today to give them more room. The only thing left is my workbench. The veggie garden and flower beds will be drastically reduced this year. LOL
Snow, what and how often are you feeding your plants? I can't get over a seed sprouting on 1/4 and being big enough to have buds. I've sure found that sangs like lots of water/fertilizer. Mine is quite tall, but sure wouldn't be able to handle winds. It has a good stalk, but probably would be good to put it out on calm days for a while to harden it a bit. Do Sangs. have to Y also like other brugs? They don't seem to grow the same, and I was just wondering.
Snow, my brugs are all outside except for the sang. They are really liking it, even the cool nights. I'm sure your nights are a bit colder than ours though. My brugs went through some really high winds the other day. One or two went over, but none broke. I think they will be ready for permanent homes in a couple of weeks or so. I can't wait!!
Yeah snow!! me and brugie wanna know!! LOL!! What are you doing to those babies! I only have one sang left. I just sent one to Dave this week. It certainly isn't ready to start setting buds. In fact ... it's rather pathetic looking.
Brugie, I fertilize once a week. One week I use Peters All Purpose and the other week I use Miracle Grow Bloom Booster.
You're so lucky to have them all outside. It was 60 here today but I'm sure it won't last. The Sang did seem to have a small Y where the bud was. I'll have to check the other four tomorrow and see if they have any buds.Mine aren't very tall at all. They are kind of sprawly.
Thanks Snow, I'm going to have to check mine in the morning. It is staked up or it would be on the floor. Even the little one that is about 10 inches tall, has to have a stake to keep it from flopping. That is the only think I don't like about them so far, but maybe bloom will make up for it. Guess I'm going to have to get the Bloom Booster out for the brug family.
i found vigoro bloom booster time release with minors, 20 pounds for 6.98, i am on my second bag. found generic liquid bloom booster. i decided to boost blooms on everything all the way this year.
I'm gonna get me some bloom booster too!! The salesman comes by on Monday and I think I will order 20# of it!!! I use Osmocote Plus with minors, and Masterblend 20-10-20, but haven't been using the Masterblend enough.
A discount place has some bloombooster on sale for 2.50 a bag....Does it matter if its not a real known name brand? What I mean is can the bag be lying about its contents?
CC, that's illegal. Southland and Dupont both got into trouble for mislabeling packages and there's some kind of law about it.
Snow, I checked my sang this morning and it is starting to Y, but no buds. I'm sure it won't be too long now though. I read someplace that sangs don't bloom for two years, but I think they might be wrong, eh?
i decided to try the generic stuff to see, the vigoro was 1/3 the price of the osmocote (last year i bought 50 pound bag from a nursery, same stuff they use - 75.00). the powder stuff was the same price but 5 pounds instead of 3.75, and a yucky brown dirty river color. kinda miss the blue fingers.
Maybe I'll go generic or is it geriatric.....
arlene, where did you get it??
LOL at all the above. How can anyone talking about a y be so entertaining.
Home Depot.
