southeast, NE

It is sooooo beautiful out today! I couldn't find an impatiens seeds in the stores I had to go to yesterday so decided I would be lazy and buy them. Usually I can find them fairly cheap at Osco or Shopko. Just heard on the news that it is supposed to get up to 85 on Sunday. There are no cattle shows this weekend!! Hope to get some stuff done outside. It is a little noisy outside as we officially weaned most of our lambs las night. We've had a few calls from people wanting club lambs from us including some new customers. We've been pretty proud of our "gentle" genetics in our lambs. People can't believe that some lambs are easier to work with than others. Speaking of lambs - I read in the latest USDA newsletter that they may be paying lamb producers for keeping and buying ewe lambs so as to keep the domestic lamb supply up in the US. It isn't much but it's better than nothing. We sold a few culled ewes the oter day and only recieved .19 a lb. I heard the hog and cattle markets are down too and that the hog market might dip down to .20. Even though we don't raise pork, I hope that doesn't happen.

DD was quite excited yesterday as she found out she gets to be a counselor/workshop leader at the Farmland Youth Leadership Conference in Kansas City this summer. I can see that this summer is going to be as busy as ever for her.

Everybody in the state of Nebr is up in arms. The Unicameral raised taxes and cut a bunch of programs. The Gov said he didn't want any taxes raised and vetoed the increase in taxes and the Unicameral vetoed his vetoe. (Just want to smack the whole lot of them - they just couldn't foresee why they didn't collect as much in income and sales tax - duh - we live in a farm state added on to other economy problems!)

Well it's almost chore time again so I'd better go. You all have a good weekend.
