ginger in zone 5
I think you have to dig them in zone five if you put them in the ground. Keep damp, they do better with moisture. Hope you barely put rhizome under dirt or even left some showing. It should eventually shoot up a stalk and hopefully bloom. I have a different ginger, but I have some in shade and some in sun. As long as they stay damp, they're ok. I really don't water mine(in the ground) until we are getting really dry here. Good luck.
i did leave the 'neck' of the rhizome above the dirt so it wouldnt rot when i watered it......i guess ill just wait...i dont think ill put in the ground here...our weather is just too unpredictable...ill just keep in a pot and let it rest during the winter.....thanks a bunch

It would help to know what kind of ginger it is. There is an orange one, Hedychium greenei from India. Gingers generally like it warm and humid and not too much sun. I would treat it like any other tropical houseplant. They are heavy feeders when they get going, though. Even if it doesn't bloom, it is beautiful foliage.
