I'm new to Brugs ( Just got my first ones last week-end :)
Anyway's , As I was searching for info on them , I came across a site that had stories about different people who had tried Brug tea's and leaves and such! I don't undestand why people would ever want to eat the leaves for the effect, But they did!! And the stories they tell of what they experienced is quite amazing! If anyones interested in seeng this site, Let me know, And I will mail it to your DG name ~ Iris
Brugmansia Tea??
IRIS - don't even think about it.
amen, too many dead teen-agers can testify to the results.
Liz, I would never use Brug, Or anything else for that matter to make anything eatable or drinkable, The only reason why I mentioned it on here is to see if any 'Brug people' wanted to read about the bad affects of it! I like to read different stories of things that happened in peoples lifes and these stories had a lot to do with Brugs ( I am in No Way suggesting for anyone to try these things ~ And, would highly suggest that they dont!)
Tig, I don't know much about Brugs at all ( I'm just learning and have been exploring different sites ) ~ I didn't even know about teenagers using them and dying from them, That's why I was so amazed and shocked when I was reading the stories! And that's why I thought I would suggest the web-site on here so that people could read about the terrible experiences, But, I guess I made a big mistake ~ I didn't mean to offend anyone, My opologies ~ I'm srrynow that I posted this.
oh no!!! If I offended you, please forgive me. I do know there are people who will still ask even after being warned. and I also didn't know if the site you saw even told of some of the stories that went bad. It is scary to think that people would purposely take such a risk. You didn't make a mistake, I think I was just as shocked the first time I started reading all that too!
When I started growing Brugs I typed in Brugmansia on Dogpile which I use for search engines and was amazed on the amount of stories and information on them.
TY Tig and Snowhermit!! I was feeling really bad about what I posted and you just made me feel a little better ~
It was the first time I ever read about people useing Brugs and such in such a manner and I must say I was totally shocked and amazed at why people would do this!! I thought me, being new to "Brugsmansia & Friends forum, That I would share what I read, (Not stopping to realize that most of the people in here allready know about these things and probably a whole lot more then I do on the subject) But, After posting and getting a couple feed-back's, I thought, 'OH-NO' , Did I mess up!! I sure hope no ones mad at me about it ~ I was just trying to share what I read and it worked the wrong way for me.
You didn't mess up at all Iris. :) When I started getting interested in these plants I read anything I could on them. Some of it was very informational. Any one that read the stories that the people wrote that experimented with it would never think of using it that way. Most of them claimed it was a horrible experience. I also learned that there is nothing to fear with these plants as long as you don't eat them in a salad. LOL
Iris, I'm really excited that you're so into brugs now that you are doing the research. beware!!! it's an addiction, and there are many here that will feed you when you decide you need more plants!!! LOL!! of course no one is mad at you!!!
TY Snowhermit & Tig!! You guys are the best!!! I was scarred in the beginning sh about touching them! I had to read a bit to get over the fear!! LOL!!
Your right Tig, It can very easily be a real bad addiction!!!
Feed Me, Feed me!!!! I'm starving for plants!!!! LOL!! ( Only kidding ) ... I'm going back to Logee's tommorrow and getting a couple more ... I can only afford two and my choices that I want are: cypress gardens,Ecuader Pink, And Charles grimaldi .... I figured Id make it easy on myself and pick the two biggest, healthiest looking ones out of the three varietys! ( Otherwise, I'd never be able to decide!!! ~ I'd be there for hours trying to make a decision! LOL )
I'm glad that you think no one will be mad about the post, I really did feel bad there for a while. But, Thank's to you and sh I sure feel a lot better now! :)
oh to go to Logees!!!!!!!!! I'm dying of envy here. Get Ecuador Pink for sure, you won't regret it.
Aww Tig, I feel bad!! I'd take you to logees with me if I could!
I agree, I saw some pics of ecuador Pink and it was love at first sight!! They were soooo beautifull!!!! Which would you pick out of CG and cypress gardens?? I understand that CG has a lot of blooms and an intense fragrence, But, Cypress Gardens is suppose to be one of the best for container's ~ they often flower at three ft. and dozens of trumpets open at once
~ hard decision !! LOL
Brugmansias and Daturas and related to Jimson Weed, which is considered poisonous. Lots of the time when plants are listed as "poisonous" it means it will make you high. However, right next door to high is residual effects and overdose, which are common since we don't know what strengths or doses are dangerous.
I used to have a little cabin and rented it to a young friend. An amanita mushroom came up in his yard and as soon as he discovered what it was; he made mushroom soup. I was horrified that it would kill him but it had no effect whatsoever. SO, we never know...
He also gave a "chocolate mescaline" pill to a friend. The friend got all giggly and silly at first, but later, was hallucinating. I mentioned that there wasn't that much to worry about because the Indians used it and because my young renter knew what he was getting. He immediately piped up and said, "well, you never REALLY know what your're getting." Ayayayayaya
He even tried to snort cocaine, but his tissues were so sensitive it made his nose bleed and he didn't care for it that much, anyway. Cocaine is probably the most easily addictive of all the drugs.
Believe it or not, this young rentor never got hooked (he was lucky)and remains close to us. It's been 25 years so I guess he'll be o.k.
Native American's partake of peyote, not mescaline pills. They believe that peyote is a sacrement. A way to communicate with the creator. Their is a big difference in using a plant in a religious ceremony versus using a pill or a tea with little or no knowledge or belief. Similarly, Native American's from South America use San Pedro mixed with Brugmansia in a religious context. The effects of these plants can quite easily be deadly and are not what one would call something to take for pleasure as long before one gets to any delusional state one gets some of the negative effects which make one feel completly miserable. I speak these things from personal experience as I have met and lived with medicine men...Heyoka's, Yuwipi's, Roadmen, etc. I have even met some of the medicine men from South America that partake of the Brugmansia in a religious context.
Iris,Out of the five I bought when I went to Logees the Sunray has grown the fastest of them all and as a bonus it is one of Eclipes. If you look carefully you might find one that has already Y'd. DH found the Y'd Sunray and was proud as a peacock when he brought it over to show me.There was a couple more there that had Y'd also but I already had them.
I had heard about kids using brugs to get high but don't know much about it. IRIS, no one could be mad about you sharing information. Never think that. It's just that it's awful to think that they take such a beautiful plant and turn it into something dangerous by using it in such a way.
Gingerlily,
As they say, a little knowledge is dangerous and a lot of knowledge can be deadly.
I like your way of putting things, Eric :) The deadly doze of Brugmansia and Datura is very close to the deepest (highest) level of knowledge. Only native medicine men are properly trained and are the only ones familiar with the dozes, but sometimes even they fail and we will never know, what they heard or saw :( It is not kids stuff. It would be like asking a teenager into a container full of gunpowder and aks him to light a match. Besides the discussion of the lethal effect of Brugmansias there are also the "psychological" effect. I read once on the internet, that the difference between Burgmansia/ datura travels and taking any other "hallucinogene" was, that if one took for example LSD one could experience the worst horrors and still remain sane, because one would have the sense, that this was caused by the LSD, but when one took Brugmansia/Datura everything would be taken for real. Both is a travel in your own perceptions and everything you think of become instantly real. Imagine you thought, you were eaten by a 12 foot great white. In real life you wouldn`t feel a thing, because you would go into chock the same minute it hit you, but on Brugmansia/Datura you would be consious all the way through its stomac and later on. Few people have the capabillity to cope with it and even if they survive by luck, their brains would take damage of the fear.
Fortunately we don`t HAVE to eat them *lol* In fact, there are perennials in our gardens much more poisonous, than Brugmansia/Daturas and noone never took any of them, so the poisonous issue is out of proportion. I had kids playing among my Daturas since 1990 and a dog and two cats now and nothing never happened by that :) I feel safe growing Brugs. They are beautiful. I am looking so much forward to all the seeds coming up and to hybridize with them to see, what will come out of it *lol* :)
Look what happen ,(I think it was calla) when she got a drop of the sap from a brug in her eye!and that was a accident.
Woodspirit, After 25 yrs. I guess he's going to be ok! LOL! It's a fact that all different drugs would effect everyone differently, But, I think it's so sad to see people try things to see what kind of high they would get ( To me it would be like playing`"Russian Roulette!")
>Brugsmania, "I agree with you there!" There 'is' a major difference between medicin men using it in a relgious context and those who are just experimenting with it for the 'high' of it.
>sh, tried to look for the y'd ones, But , Didn't have much luck,( But, As you know ) I was still pretty happy with what I did get! I seen the 'sunray' there and was pretty tempted!! But, I had my heart set on a certain 3 and ended up getting them ( Sunray, Is next on my list tho!! ) ( List seems to keep growing for some reason!!! LOL )
>Gingerlilly, I didn't even know what a brug was untill I came here lol ~ And when I tried to do a little research on them , I was just totally shocked when I came upon the stories of the people who were trying them out in tea's and such! When I was first reading the replies to the post, I got the inpression that people weren't too happy about me posting about it, But, I guess maybe I just read it the wrong way. Anyway's, I feel the same as you do, That's too bad people have to take something so beautifull and turn it into something so deadly!
>CC , I didn't hear about the ' sap in the eye' ( I hope she didn't have major ill effects from it.)
