Great trade

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I wanted to show off this great trade I got in today's mail since there has been some complaints about trading with nonmembers. The fella that sent these is a non-contributing member that e-mailed me out of the blue... looking for poppy seeds. He's a new trader and at first said he'd send coleus cuttings for seeds. I told him that wouldn't be too fair on his end. We agreed I'd send him a couple of rooted brug cuttings & the seeds for his coleus cuttings and a couple of annuals suitable for containers.

Well here's the trade. I got 8 beautiful coleus cuttings - all different and packed in little floral vials. And ... 7 proven winner annuals. There's 'Painted White' osteospurmum, 'Purple Sunspot' supertunia, 'Patriot Hallelujah' Lantana, 'Butterfly' agryranthemum, 'Primrose Petite' agryranthemum, 'Siskiyou Pink' Gaura, and Tibouchina urvilleana. I would have spent $50 or more to go out and buy these plants. And here I was worried that this guy might not hold up his end of the deal. Trades like this make all the bad ones worth while.

You are so right, Poppysue, there are some great people out there. I was looking for a plant about 6 weeks ago and found someone who had them but chances were good that he had tossed them when I wrote. He said he would send some of these Glory Bower bush starts. I asked for his address and he said, no just wait until they get there and you can see how much the postage is, and then mail it to me. Talk about trusting. I feel so good when I run across people like this. To top it off, he sent eight roots. I couldn't believe it.

I'm so glad you received such a nice exchange cuz you certainly deserve it! I love the floral vials for sending cuttings ~ any idea on where to get those? Too bad he can't enjoy DGs since he's not a member... Probably he's too busy packing up his trades!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Those appear to be the same vials used by florists in wreaths and some other arrangements. You might check with a friendly florist about a supplier.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Good idea, Aimee ~ hope they don't mind sharing their trade secrets :) I saw a similar vial attached to a magnet in a catalog at a hefty price. With that vial, I could design that item both easily & affordably!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes - the vials are like you would get on cut flowers. It's been so long since I got a bouquet of cut roses - LOL!!... but I know they use them a lot for long stemmed roses. The top is rubber with a small hole for the stem to fit through. I bet you could get them at a floral shop. They're perfect for shipping unrooted cuttings.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Wow Poppy, you certainly hit the jack pot. It's so good to see someone that takes pride in his trading as this guy did with the generous amount he sent and the obvious care he took packing them.

Oh my goodness!
I had to join this site just to read what everyone was saying about me! I thought it was pretty funny to see a photo of some plants I mailed a week ago on the internet. I am glad I made a good trade. I am also glad for the good publicity for my first trade. Thanks for the warm welcome to DG website.
