Anyone have any for trade? Please check my member page. Thanks.
Wanted: Kiss me over the garden gate
I just received a small packet of these seeds today from a gardenweb.com trader. I don't think I've ever seen the plant, tho. HOw tall, what color? Do you know?
I have an amaranthus 'red hopi dye' that gets about 5'+ tall. I don't know if you are interested, but I will post it with a picture so you can see.
I will post the amaranthus on my trade page with the picture.
Mick the red hopi dye is beautiful!! Did you see anything on my page that interests you?
Granny - isn't this the same stuff that you picked off that plant at Wal-Mart? It looks a lot like it. Go look at gardener_mick's picture and see what you think.
Picture is here on gardener_mick's page.

Dave,
That plant is Love lies Bleeding - an amaranth.
Here is Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate - it's a polygonum, a member of the knotweed family. Cleome is in front of it.

I have seeds if anyone wants to try them.
We already have traded twice, but that is beautiful. I was told that kiss me over the garden gate was an amaranth. Boy do I see the difference. If there is possibly anything else that you might like on my page let me know.
I would love some of those seeds Poppysue, I've been trying to find some! Please look at my list to see if I might possibly have something that you don't already. Thanks
Jody
Granny! You mean you pick off the plants at WALMART??? *LOL* Now THAT'S addicted!!! Hmmmm....what a great idea! I think I'll head over there right now! LOL
Granny...You actually found a plant as beautiful as KMOGG at walmart?
I'm expecting seeds from a trade to arrive sometime this week, if I have extra, they will be available to anyone who is interested in having some.

If anyone has had success growing this from seed, I'd sure like to know what I'm doing wrong I purchased 4 packets of seeds, from 4 different vendors last year, and out of all of those I got ONE seed to germinate. It was a variegated one. Loved it, but had to beat the slugs off it on a daily basis. It was late flowering, and we had an early frost. I pulled what I could of the seeds/seed flowers, but none of them look as if they are mature enough.

you need to plant inbetween oct-feb or march-sept with very thin layer of compost if they dont germinate in spring keep them cool moist conditions through out the summer, can take 30-545 days to germinate @50 degrees sow 1/16" deep they have to saty cool to germinate i hope this helps

Pretty pictures in Plant Files too.
Just in case not enough trade seeds to go around you can buy seeds here.

I also read in warm areas to place seed in frig for 5 weeks before sowing.
Perhaps that was what I did wrong. I just "planted" them. Here are the blooms from my one plant. As you can see by the soffit on the house, it was pretty tall. Somewhere I have a shot of the foliage which was gorgeous, and had the feel of velvet cloth when you touched it. Not at all like any leaf I have ever touched.
