I got a Gardenia from someone and want to plant it in a container since it wont live through winter here. Can someone tell me how to plant it. I read on the net that it likes to be planted in Peat moss and fed during the growing periods. Is this correct?

How to plant a Gardenia
They grow best in potting soil. Water only when the soil is dry to the touch, try not to over water them. They do like misting and medium sunlight. Fertilizing helps as well.
Hope this helps.

Tammy, to further confuse you, here is what it says on my tag that came with my gardenia.
Place in a location where it gets lots of light.
Temperature of 60-80* is ideal.
No direct hot or cold drafts.
Water so the soil remains moist.
If plant gets too dry it will react by losing its foliage and buds.
Fertilize very little if any.
Use acid based fertilizer monthly except when blooming.
