I just bought these Brug's yesteraday from Logee's ~ I have never had a Brug before, And I was really excited about getting these!! After reading how many people on here love Brugs, I decided I just had to have one ( Or two LOL ) when I looked up some info on them I was suprised to see how poisonous they were! ( Made me a little parinoid ) I found one good site on them ~> ( http://home.att.net/~perennials/menu.html ) But, If anyone else has anything they would like to add, I'd appreciate it!! The ones I bought are Pasco and Alba ~ Does anyone have a photo and info they could share on these two?? I got a little info and a small photo from Loogee's catolog on Pasco, But, Not much on Alba, So would appreciate any info or photo's ....Thank's all! ...And "Happy Easter" to all of you!!
P.S.~ When I got them home I put them in bigger pots ~ I had used Miracle Grow potting soil to transplant them, Then later when looking up info , I seen that your suppose to add vermiclite or perilite to the potting soil for these plants, Should I redo them and add perilite?? If so, How much do I add?? Sorry about the questions, But, I'm abit new to the 'potting catergory' ~ Thanx in advance! ... Iris

My first bought Brug's!!
Are they Jean Pasco and Versicolor Alba? Those are two very nice ones. Congrats on your new babies. Are those the pots they came in? if so, put they in the largest pots you can find pretty soon, otherwise move they up to the biggest pots you can in a few weeks.
Iris your hooked now,the alba is white it was posted a while back some ware on here I don't know who posted it.
Pete
Iris, go to Extras on the right side of the page and under the Brugmansia and Datura Contest click on Brugie. There will be a couple of pictures of the Jean Pasco brug. I just got the Alba versicolor yesterday, myself. There are a lot of good pictures under all the names at that contest photo site.
Arlene, Thankyou, And yes it is the Jean Pasco and versicolor Alba. These are not the pots they came in, I changed them because they were too big for the original pots. Really looking forward to how they will look in a few months!(TY for the info )
>Irish , I think your right!!~ I'm hooked allready!! LOL!! TY for the info.
>Brugie, Thank's for the info! :)
Iris - you went to Logees? Boy do I envy you!
Iris, just re-read your post. don't add vermiculite or perlite....maybe for rooting but not growing, once they get a little size on them they love the water. Miracle Grow is good.
Arlene, Thank you so much for letting me know that, (I was a little worried about it)
Iris, don't be too worried about them being poisonous. So are tomatoes and many many other plants we all have in our yards. Just don't eat them:)
Iris . . . what nice looking plants. They will be big before you know it.
Iris,Isn't Logees awesome. They have some great plants.I bought five when I went there in mid Feb.and they were the same size as yours. I just put them in 5 gallon pots yesterday because they have grown so big.
Iris, when you move yours up, put them in 5 gallon pots. SH, put two of your babies in the ground yesterday, they sure look good.
I'm glad Arlene. Doesn't the versi Peach x Butterfly one have huge leaves? The one I have has bigger leaves than any other in the greenhouse and it's just a baby. Those three kinds are growing huge fast.Already have them potted in 5 gallon pots.
Tig, Does that mean I shouldn't take a munch here or there??? LOL ~ I was concerned for my dog who tends to like to chomp on things in the house ~ I have to keep the Brugs inside untill it's warm enough outside ( Which means I need to keep them in a spot that is definately out of her reach! ) Not easy to do in my house! LOL ~ TY Tig for the info, When I first started reading about them, I was a bit under the impression that they would be poisonius to the touch and not only from ingestion (I'm just learning about them now )
> BrugNanny, Thankyou! It was love at first sight when I seen them ( Even if they didn't have blooms! LOL ) I am really anxius to see how fast they grow!!
> Snowhermit, Logee's sure is awsome!! It's like a tropical forest there! Wow, Were all the plants you bought Brugs?? I would love to see a pic of how big they got if you have one . I'm really debating going back this week-end and getting a couple more!! (My only problem would be finding a spot to put them to keep them away from my dog untill it's warm enough to put them outside )
> Arlene, I had moved them up to bigger pots when I brought them home, Do you think it will be ok in about a month to move them up to 5 gal. pots?
> Liz, Sorry I missed your post earlier, I go to Logee's every now and then just to check out some of the plants, I was never into tropicals at all untill I joined 'Daves'!! Last year it was a 'Passiflora' craze for me ~ This year it's Brug's!!! LOL! And logee's always seems to come through! It make's it kind of easy for me because Logee's is only about 20-25 minutes away from my house.

there is a lot of info out there that can scare you about these plants and give you the impression that touching will get you! But I handle mine and never have a problem, not even the one I expected. I have extremely sensitive skin and I thought I'd at least break out.
As for the doggie, you do want to keep it out of his reach, but it should taste nasty enough that he wouldn't do it twice. You can strip the leaves, all but the very top ones. You're going to have to when you put them out anyway, so that's a thought. they aren't near as pretty, but it works.
welcome to the wonderful world of brugs!
Iris, yes all five were Brugs. There is a picture of Peaches & Cream and variegata suaveolens that I brought back up to the top for you to see. Both were bought at Logees in Feb. P&C is well over 2ft high and the other four are close behind it.I find that the bigger the pot the faster it grows.
Tig, TY for letting me know about touching the plant, Your right, With all the info out there,I was a bit weary about it, ( You just made me feel more relieved!) I haven't read any parts anywhere about striping the leaves, Why do you have to do that?
>SH, I looked at the pic's (TY ) and they look like they are doing really well! ( I really like the varegated leaves on the sauveolens! ) I'm going to re-pot mine in bigger pots in a few weeks. You must be so excited as how great they are growing!!
IRIS...the Jean pasco is a large flowered orange/gold that was originally collected by a couple in Southern Cailf. It waas in Columbia in the foothills of the Andes. The Versicolor Alba..I sent Logees a few years ago after collecting a branch of it in Encinitas Calif in a plant trade. The flowers on Ver Alba can reach 24 inches long on a well grown plant. If you need better pics on these email me. :-)

OOPS! I hit the button twice!!!LOL LOL :-)
LOL! We all tend to hit that button twice at one time or another!
Thankyou for the info, I found a pic of the Alba in an old logee's catalog, But would still
love to see what pic's you have ,So will definately e-mail you ~ Wow, I'm amazed that you started logee's off with the Alba! ( I mighthave one of your original plant's grandbabies! LOL) The Gean Pasco is looking good, But ,The versi Alba got a couple yellow leaves on it ( Kinda wrried ) Any suggestions?
IRIS yellow leaves on a brug are normal..as new ones develop old ones turn yellow and fall off..especially indoors in pots.So not to worry. :-)
you'll want to take the leaves off because they're used to inside light, and so they don't catch the wind and topple your plants over. Dont' worry, they will put out new leaves fast. Just leave the top two for now.
Eclipse & Tig, Thankyou! ...You just eased my mind! What a relief!! I thought something was wrong with the Alba! Whew!!!
P.S. It's only been 3 day's and I'm totally hooked on Brugs!!! LOL! I'm going to get two more this week-end ...A CG and a cypress gardens.
