Welcome Peter63 :)!!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Peter is a very dear friend. i've known him for sometimes. Peter to me is the BEST of all Master Gardeners. He is not only a gardener, he is also a great photographer. this is a sample of what we are in for in the near future... http://plantsdatabase.com/go/2681.html , which surprise me to see the DG newsletter, earlier this evening. actually i was not surprise with the expertise of Peter.

Peter is going to be a Great asset to DG, if not mistaken based from previous experience, Peter can name a plant w/out having to look it up: give propagation and planting instructions and so many other things about plants and planting.

long time back, i did post a site Peter created on the web. unfortunately, due to the great changes on the www, Peter's website was one website that had a misfortune of being wiped off.

Peter, welcome to your new Home away from home. i am sure you will have great fun here. i know everyone here will welcome you with open arms, and in return they will all enjoy the good advice/s they will learn from you as i have. thanks for being a great friend :)!!!!!! ma vie

edited to add more info

Peter is from Yorkshire, England. if memory serves me right, Peter had an opportunity to work in one of England's Botanical Gardens. It is a great honor and pleasure to introduce Peter to everyone.

am sure Poppysue and Flowox will remember Peter's propagation and very informative site.

Well! it seems that my lovely but over exuberant friend has thrown me into the deep end. Please - I am more modest by nature. The lady overstates my potential.

I was a professional gardener until my early retirement. However, I'm sure that you will realise that horticulture is a many faceted scene, and there are many amateur gardeners out there who are expert in their own particuler aspect of cultivation. I always maintained that if for example you wanted the best information on how to grow Chrysanthemums, don't take up the time of a professional nurseryman who may have to deal with many species - go to your local 'allotment site'(UK) and ask the amateur who has been growing them for probably most of his life. He or she will give you the best guidance to suit to your locality.

My own leanings have been towards plant propagation and the teaching of horticultural principals to students - and that was many years ago. I will fall short of any updating with regards to chemicals, plant varieties and cultivars etc.

Regarding my web site - I did not wish to volunteer its inclusion in my preferences because at the moment I don't feel it is finished off to my satisfaction - but, my friend MaVieRose obviously thinks differently and, as I say 'in at the deep end'. I will forgive her.

All the best

Peter! How nice to hear from you again. I discovered DG a couple weeks ago myself and saw a post from MaVIRose. She extended a warm invitation to join this group. I'm so happy to see another familiar name in the neighborhood. Welcome!

Now folks, our modest friend here has another reason to blush - because I too will attest to his knowledge and expertise. Both are extensive and the best part is that Peter writes with passion and interest. I have enjoyed past posts in another location with much relish and I know you will too.

When posting to Peter - don't forget to give him a bit of your location - he's a geography buff as well!

WELCOME PETER!

swoznick

Hello Swoznick (from our old stommping ground) nice to hear from you,and thanks for the further embarrassment lol. I don't know what to do with you lot ?
Anyway - I've been off computing since last Nov but decided to go the whole hogg and return full time (24hrs). I do these drastic things you know.
Whilst surfing the garden scene I came across Daves site and really liked the look of it. He's a great guy.
Saw MaVie's messages so was able to make contact again even though I had lost most of my addresses. She doesn't change, just as sweet natured (and exhuberant as ever). I can't believe how many plants she grows. I think Hesperia is on the way to a new botanicla garden.
Any sign of Dixiemare and Crabbergirl ?
Anyway - I might be on the wrong section of the forum, talking non gardening stuff, so I will be off now

All the best

Peter.

Welcome to Dave's Garden, Peter...You come HIGHLY recommended to us!! I live in Arizona...and know very little about gardening...but due to some friends on here...it seems like I am being deluged with seed....so what'a a gal to do? PLANT! HELP! LOL Jo

Hi Jo - thanks for the welcome - and be sure Jo, there are many people on these forums who are as learned or more so than I. My expertise lies mainly in the English garden and despite basic practices holding true between continents, there are very many aspects of gardening in the USofA and Canada that I am completely ignorant about.
We will learn from one another.
I think what a gal needs to do who is perhaps new to horticulture is to sit down with a recommended book such as American Horticultral Societies 'Plant Propagation' and study those basic principles that will go towards ensuring success in her gardening endeavours.
I know books can be expensive and we are in the age of new information technology, but since I took up the computer ten years ago I have never lost my regard for book learning.
Be as specific as you can when asking questions on the forums; give accurate descriptions from careful observation of all facets of your garden plants and gardening activities - and I know you will get the answers you need from the members of the forums.

Another welcome from Ohio, Peter. :) Gardenhubby (aka Howie) and I live in central Ohio, about 50 miles east of our state capitol, Columbus. Mike's down south of us a bit. We have wet springs and dry summers, it seems, and I always say I'm going to do more with drip irrigation or soaker hoses. I'll take some of your English rain!
