Brugs for sale on QVC show

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

My mother was watching TV today while I was out PLANT SHOPPING..what else?? LOL She said they had brugs on QVC for sale $27 dollars or something for 3 plants ,they had a blooming display plant and people were really buying them. Now they are on TV too! Imagine that!!!! :-)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

One day on Victory Garden they had the brug as their plant of the day/week, whatever. Only thing wrong was that they called it a versicolor peach and it wasn't. Roger Swain isn't as good as he thinks when it comes to brugs. :-)
I don't know what it is because I have one just like it and we never could ID it. So, it is from now on just called Shirley's Peach.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

I saw a picture of your Shirley's Peach and it was absolutely beautiful.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks, but I can't take credit for it. Just knew it wasn't what it was originally name. Originally, I got it as a Versicolor Peach. You can see, if you remember the picture, it was not a versicolor. Can't wait to see all the others in bloom this summer though. I need spring really badly.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

You and me both, Shirley, can't take much more of this dumping dirt inside the house, I have done it three times this week and had to clean it up from the carpet, I've got cabin fever!! Lemme out!!

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Brugie....email me a copy of the peach brug you need identified....maybe I can identify it for you.
:-)

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

eclipse, go to extras on side bar, then brug/datura contest. it's posted there.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Eclipse. I would like your opinin too, I have my un-named yeoow one posted there too.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene, Thanks..you can still see I'm a newbie here..:-)

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Azalea...CG has smooth edged leaves and the flowers tend to hang straight down, Dr. Suess has toothed edgs on leaves and the flowers sometimes angle outward.I couldn't tell from the pic if the leaves are toothed or not. :-)

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Brugie....Yours is a different case..can't tell for sure but yours looks like a variant of Frosty pink. When it blooms this summer I'll come down and take a closer look and we can come up with something! :-)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thank Kyle. Hope I still have that one, think I do. I've given so many away that I don't remember from one day to the next.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

CG has smooth leaves? first i ever heard that. My CG didn't, and the JO didn't either! and Monica says CG and JO are the same.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Eclipse, could you please look at this link? i didn't photo what i traded for as CG, but couldn't tell a difference.

and this...in the spring the flowers were side ways and curled back, like open faces, but then quit, don't know if it was the sun/heat?

btw, these were my first two, traded to me as versicolors.....

what I bought as CG has toothed leaves too. :(

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kyle, my CG and Suess are just the opposite. I have had CG for a long time and just got the Suess last year, I think. I noticed that there was a leaf difference right away. So, now what? I bought my Suess from Florida and the CG was given to me.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Brugie...switch the tags!! LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I went back and looked at pictures, and I was mistaken. They both have leaves with teeth. My JO has smooth edges. So, I assume that means that I have two Dr. Suess plants?

I thought it was funny that I could barely tell the difference in them. I wrote to Earl at Valley Grow last summer and he told me the only difference between CG and Dr. S. was that once in a while Suess would have a smooth leaf. So, I thought I had both of them. I have also thought that my "CG" wasn't as gold looking as pictures I had seen. Now I know why.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Ms Brugie, the JO i received in trade had leaves with teeth. My next question, Monica says JO and CG are the same i believe? i am wondering if they are so close we just have misnamed ones, Eclipse you weren't kidding about smooth leaves were you?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

My JO has totally smooth leaves. So if it is the same as CG, I'm covered here. Can't wait to see them bloom so I can see the difference here instead of on a picture. I think Glory sent me the JO that I have.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

I got my JO (toothed leaves) from karma, and she sends out so many sases in the fall, tons of us got them from her over the last couple of years i am sure. my CG from JJs Garden (and i sent her what i thought was JO). you know, this is turning into a "yellow" frosty pink discussion.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sure is, but things like this make for good discussions. I'm sure we will all survive it even though some of us might not have Grimaldi. If it weren't for my JO, I'd be looking for one. I'll send you a chunk of my JO this fall.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I got my CG from Earl, and it's toothed :( And because I know it's the same as JO, I gave all my JO out in sase. So if someone got Charles Grimaldi from me, it could well be Dr Seuss. Wait and check your leaves. Now I don't have one, and it's one I need for hybridizing. drat!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Well, remember all last fall i kept saying they all looked the same to me? i already had 2 dr suess, bought dr suess cuttings from earl, traded what i thought was JO for what i thought was CG, and both were dr suess? and bought a jamaican yellow that turned out to be dr suess? do i have enough dr suess? or were some of them solid gold? do i want to try to get a CG? WOW! all those cuttings i sent to all those people labeled wrong....and my seeds labeled JO/CG that weren't...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

This fall tiG. If you don't get one before that.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I do know one thing. we were all trying to get it right. and we all learned something new :)

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh my this is confusing. I got my CG cutting from Gloria. I wonder where she got it from. I will have to look tomorrow and see what type leaf it has.

Arlene - So what are the seeds that are marked JO/CG? I just planted them today and I want to make sure they are labeled correctly.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugnanny, roflol... i reckon they are Dr Suess. i am SO confused. i sure would have NEVER planted six dr suess in my yard on purpose!!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Can you imagine what Dr Suess would have to say about all this?

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Uuh Oh! I was checking and I have a brug that is labeled CG and the leaves are not smooth. So sad . . . now I do not have a CG at all. It will be interesting to see what the flower turns out to be. I may be asking for expert opinions later.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

OK..here it is...Smooth = no teeth along the edge
CG and JO are the same plant, Dr Suess has teeth along the edges of the leaves. The texure of the leaves has nothing to do with this.CG flowers hang down, Dr Suess flowers are partially angled out.Does this make any sense?? :-)

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Eclipse, just found where you posted yesterday on ID, thank you much. got it.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Ok I guess I better jump in here, b/c tiG sent me my only brugs and they were cuttings of course. But now they are about 2+' tall and full of toothed leaves! So what does this mean??? I am so not into the name thing when it comes to all the different ones, I just call them brugs lol I will be sure and let you know when they bloom...whenever that is?! I am pretty sure one was labeled white and one was pink and possibly orange?? tiG is that what you had??

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Dr S isn't the only toothed brug, but I'm sure that of what I had for cuttings, you have at least one Dr S!!!

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Good news then! Thanks again tiG!!

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Sunray...((MY BABY!!))LOL has very serrated leaves on mature growth..thats its trade mark. There are many many serrated types.

FSH, TX

Have you made any additional crosses with Sunray Kyle? You have sure created some timeless beauties. A proud father you are to have created Sunray.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Kyle, I guess that means I have one of your grandchildren. I bought a Sunray when I went to Logees.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Kyle, Sunray is one of my favorites. Still didn't get the big white one, but I bet that one is going to be spectacular too. Which ones are your babies?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Roz, I have several on the market,":Temple Goddess" "Sunray",Kyle's Giant White","Milk N Honey","Moon Goddess", and several I have yet to release.
