This bloomed yesterday - waited a day for it to open more - then realized that this is as big as it gets. Bloom is 7 inches long - mouth is just more than an inch.
If you like red
Nice bloom Liz. I'm hoping mine will bloom this year. I notice they grow different than the other Brugs. Mine are more sprawly than upright. Do they also Y before they bud?

I guess I'm especially pleased with this one.
Snow, they do Y but I haven't noticed them do the sub-equal leaves.
It's beautiful Liz!!! good job!
So pretty, someday I hope to have one that gets a bud,I would be happy if it thought about getting a bud.....
Wowsa!!!!
Send me a qtip with pollen please? I have an arborea fixin to bloom that needs that pollen desperately. Either that, or I have to send you some arborea pollen for its next blooms. I like the serrated leaves on that one. Let me know if you need arborea pollen for that one in the near future. Of course if you have your own arborea's blooming or fixin to bloom you had better keep that pollen up state.
Thats great Liz.... one of the few things you guys up north can have that we can't down here
Pete
Liz, it looks much like a vulcanicola. I can see it by the shape of the flower and the glossy serrated leaves. Vulcanicola is involved in this creation.
Monika you make me want pollen from this creation even more now. My Roter Vulkan had serrated leaves come to think of it before it kicked the bucket. I wish we had some hardier cultivars for the southeners. I believe my Roter Vulkan was velvety though, not very shiny at all.
This is Roter Vulkan from Hodnik - a vulcanicola hybrid. I measured the mouth of the bloom and it's 1 1/2 wide. Brugman this is this plant's first bloom in the GH, there are more buds though - we'll talk. I'll take better pictures when it fills out - I've been cutting off all the bigger leaves all winter.
Just say the word and I'll get some arborea pollen to you asap. I am most excited about getting you to create Roter Vulkan x Ida. If you would be so inclined. Ida x Roter Vulkan would be wonderful as well. I would personally select for vigor and strength first and foremost on this cross. Not that I have any experience with these types.
Liz, she is beautiful. I can't wait for mine to bloom, but it isn't the same, for sure.
