Citronella from the side

Oh, yes-thats the ticket. Now if she was only red with bright yellow pinstripes she'd be perfect.

I think white with the red,like Eclipes's hibiscus!!!very pretty,I hadn't seen citronella yet.

Eric, you're doing a great job taking pictures.

Now I do like the long calyx.

Liz, I must confess the long calyx on this hybrid definitly adds something of beauty to this white hybride. RED WITH WHITE PINSTRIPES ON THIS ONE WOULD CERTAINLY BE NICE AS WELL.

I love this flower!

I know what you're getting at - what happened to your Roter Vulkan? This must be IDA? You didn't introduce us Brugman LOL. So you've started on your Tonny, arborea, vulcanicola, sang project.

Beautiful flower Eric.

Brugmansia..you can sure tell its arborea heritage.....:-)

Eclipse,
I have to confess I thought it was an arborea the first time I saw it as well. This one is a multihybrid though. Perhaps Monika will tell us which crosses were involved in making this one.

Brugman, Dr. Preissel named it a aurea - hybrid. I looked up my records but Mme Blin, its breeder, said, its a Multihybrid. I will ask her in my next Phone call.
Citronella is definitly not a B. arborea.

Citronella is one of my favorite whites and I can't wait to hear more about this hybrid. Thanks so much Monika.

A few of my smaller Rothkirch cuttings have roots. I checked them today. I could see them in the peat moss. Tomorrow, I will check the larger ones, if they have deceided, to make roots. The plant, I rooted last summer, shows little buds, the other from two years ago, is growing also. So I maybe get finally rid of the almost 10 year old plant. I have enough from all the bumps on my head when I overlooked that one thick wooden branch, when I walked along the path to see after the other brugs. Why I didnt removed it? I couldnt, it was a branch of the generative region. Its cuttings start to bloom at about the size of 50cm. A cutting of the vegetative region outgrows your greenhouse.

I just had to bring this picture back to the top. This one is quickly becoming my favorite for the new year as it has already went through 2 bloom cycles for me. Absolutely stunning hybrid in shape and performance. I may have to revamp my hybridizing program around this white one. The fragrance is pleasantly surprising, but for me it is best during the first day of opening and lessens a bit each day afterward. I plan on crossing this one to Butterfly in the hopes of getting some pinks with Citronella's shape. Perhaps some elongated tendrils and of course Citronella's much shortened versicolor like calyx.

Citronella looks very similar to the aurea corollas I have seen, so I guess I understand, why Dr. Preissel put it in this category. However, multi hybrids also sometimes looks very similar to a species group, so Mme Blin could have a poit there.

Eclipse, I could have sworn, that I saw arborea inheritance in this as well. Not even Ida has such arborean calyx *lol*

Eric, I like the red with white pinstribes *lol* Amber Rose has the stribes with very clear definitions and Rothkirch or Butterfly has the right color.

It sure does look like an arborea calyx doesn't it. :-)

Monika:...That reminds me....I really like the photo of Baby Bolero on your website.... The calyx covers most of the double corrola...It's a very beautiful hybrid and i would really love to obtain it in the future!

The calyx on this one is actually very short-just a few inches long. I like that fact and the fact that it does seem to cover a bit of the corolla similar to an arborea calyx or an aurea with a shortened versicolor like calyx if you will. The seedpods on this hybrid appear to have a slight bit of a felty type nature to them, but I really must get some more seedpods going before I state anything for certain about this hybrids seedpods. From what I can tell though, it looks highly fertile. Just had to pull one pod off to count how many ovum had been fertilized.

There are some hybrids, that easely can be confuse with B. arborea. Duftglöckchen differs only by color, its cream-white and its different fragrance. B. arborea has its special fragrance.

Yes, Monika. B. arborea has a scent of its own *lol* I like it very much and enjoyed it intensly, especially, when I made Ida. Sweet vanilla doesn`t describe it, but it has a component in its fragrance making me think of vanilla :-) I don`t know, what I miss most here, - summer or Christmas? Summer it is vanilla arborea scent, Christmas is with Ris A La`Mante 8-)
