Rather bizzare question.....

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Okay, I went out and walked around today and found a big hump in the middle of a bed. As I cussed critters, I lifted some of the hump to figure out which bulb they pushed up. Actually a giant flowering onion came up beneath another giant onion and pierced a hole right through it. The bulb is the size of an orange and I was quite shocked! LOL My question is, will this big bulb still grow with the whole center missing? It only has three tiny roots sticking off of it. It had a few bad spots which I cut off and treated. For now it is sitting on my counter. So, what do you think?

I think it brings tears to my eyes..........

boo hoo tears too yoo

I'd put it back in the ground Michele, and see what happens! Stranger things have happened in nature.

I think a couple of smarty pants jumped on my thread! LOL I have a big stinkin' onion on my counter! If you all saw this thing you would crack up. I had a big onion bulb popsicle growing in my garden! I have never seen such a thing. I know I dug them up last year, took off the babies and replanted them, but this thing really is the size of an orange! An offset came up and pierced it. I guess I can really grow some onions!

Well kids, I am here to report the death of the bizarre bulb. I did everything I could. sniff, sniff, wiping away the tears (it was an onion!). I cut away the bad spots, rinsed it clean and applied fungicide. I set it aside and waited a few days. Despite my heroic efforts, it grew a large fuzzy mold inside, turned all mushy and met with it's demise. I threw it away rather than risk the health of the rest of the family. I guess my question was answered the hard way. waaaahhhh Glad I have a few more. :)
