Need help with yellow clivia

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

I have two babies I grew from seed. They are either 2 or 3 years now. They are still babies. What can I do to speed them up - what do they thrive on? Thanks, Brenda

I am waiting for an answer on this one too. I have two yellow large plants, bloomed twice. I have orange and red ones, they are sooo.... slow. If you try and take too good of care of them, fertilize and water too well, you kill them.

They grow in their own sweet time, seem to like neglect and being more or less dry.

Thanks Hibiscus. Thought it might just be me but I will try to be patient. Brenda

Clivias raised out of seeds might bloom after about seven to ten years. Clivias need water, when dry and fertilzer once a week. Beginning from August, no watering and fertilizing until about February, they need a rest for such a long time.I start watering carefully, when the first signs of flowers are shown ( a thick white leave like stem seen in the midst). Clivias dont like to be moved around, the light should be always be from one and the same side. Look at my thread, 50 year old Clivia.

Thanks, Monika

I have been turning mine, as they tend to grow towards the window, all the leaves, like they will topple over. So, will keep them in same place. Did not know about not watering August through February, will try that.

Thanks Monika. What kind of fertilizer do you suggest? Remember, I am a novice with these clivias. Does the turning still apply to the babies? Thanks, Brenda

The turning applys to the babies also. I have a mark on the pot of my old plant, whenever I have to remove her, I know how she stood before. I bring my Clivia every year into the garden for a ' vacation '. Its a warm but shaded place, protected from too much rain. She stand there from June until Mid - August. Then I take her back on her place in the house for her wintersleep. She does it very well by about 12 - 15°C and the first signs of flowering is already seen in February. Eclipse might explain it better to you as I can in my translation.
