I put them away for a rest and forgot about them till 3 weeks ago. They amaze me how quick they grow.I think the white/pink is apple blossom but not sure what the apricot is.

Pretty! What am I doing wrong? I've been trying to get my bulb to bloom for the last three years to no avail. All I can get is two very tall stalks and that is it!

Even more opened today! nmax, I take mine outside for the summer, fertilize alot ,keep those leaves growing, till fall ,let it dry out,and stuff it in the closet till someone reminds me to pull them out. What do you do with yours?

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Not much crestedchick; that's probably the problem. I don't pay as much attention to my plants as I should/want to. I leave it inside and water it with very little fertilizer until the leaves die off. Then I put it in the closet until around Thanksgiving. It sounds like I need more fertilizer and to take it outside in the summer. I'll try that. Thanks!

Of course you can not cut off the flower stalk, but start after you 'supposedly' did that.......

HOW TO CARE FOR AMARYLLIS AFTER FLOWERING?

During the growing season, it is important to feed the Amaryllis on a regular basis with a regular houseplant food.
After the Amaryllis is finished flowering, cut the flower stalk off just above the nose.
Keep feeding the Amaryllis while it is still in a warm place and keep the soil moist by watering it on the saucer.
You can put the Amaryllis out in the garden, either in the pot or by taking it out of the pot and planting it.
Take the Amaryllis back inside in September. Stop watering and place the bulb in a dry and cool place for 10-12 weeks.
After this time period, take the bulb out of the pot, clean off the old foliage and any old roots. Leave the healthy roots in place.
Repot in fresh soil, leaving the top 1/3 of the bulb exposed. Make sure the pot has a drainage hole.
Place the pot in a warm place and water well initially. Then water sparingly until growth emerges. Then, water more regularly and keep it in a cooler place.
Also, resume fertilizing the Amaryllis again.

Opps,I never took it out of the pot and removed the old soil.I have a bunch of the in a large shallow pot.Should I wait till next spring to repot?

I have a big red one that I have just left in the ground for the last four years. Don't do anything special to it, but every year it has a baby. Now that I know better, it will probably die. LOL Hope not, it's a beauty.

I love amaryllis. Mine are outside in the garden and they just finished blooming. They have ferocious appetites.

I have to thin mine out this fall and when I do, I will feed them this: 1/2 cup epsom salts, 1/2 cup bone meal, 1/2 cup blood meal, 3 tablespoons super phosphate and 3 tablespoons bulb food. I will put this mixture down by the roots because the nutrients from the bone meal and blood meal don't move down through the soil very well. This above mixture will feed about three bulbs. I'll probably have to triple it for my bulbs.

Then during the year, if I'm tossing out Sunniland 2-10-10 or 6-6-6, I always throw some their way.

You can see by these pictures that they rewarded me well this spring.

I saw on a show last week that amaryillis can be propigated by cutting the bulb into sections. You just need to make sure you have a section of crown and root on each piece. Anyone have any experience??

Beautiful flowers ShadowCat!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I had a bulb that just about looked dead. I had it in a pot above the fridge and just the other day I got it down. I forgot all about it and it hadn't been watered in a few weeks. wouldn't you know it, it is starting to grow some leaves :) I almost pitched it because I thought it was a lost cause
