This is bad..they can decide to not let us grow anything they determine to be a noxious pest.
There are counties in florida where it is illegal to grow brugs now, i shudder to think about it..... it may be cities not counties, my friend who lived in palm bay i'm sure told me they were illegal there and somewhere else in florida.

The US have always been a monument to look up to for their great democracy, a garant for personal freedom for each citizen, something, europeans only were able to dream about with all their restrictions, many of them are still out of feudal times, but after reading this - I dont know anymore, what I should believe! Do I understand it correct that US nurseries cannot sell or trade their products anymore within the US, like from Maine to New York?
we all need to get on the stick and read and DO what JL Hudson suggests, emailing, writing. and fast. or see the end of trades.
tiG you are right. We must do what we can and we should tell all our friends and relatives that do not belong to Dave's to support us on this and to also write or email. It only take a couple minutes of time and it could be very well worth it if enough people do voice their opinion.
Monika..its not a law yet..but could be if our ever glorious morons in DC. get a chance to pass it...sometimes it only takes as few as a handful of people to write their represenitives in Washington to get a new law passed or thrown out..in this country the louder you are the more you get.....I know..we have done this before in petitions..
Arlene..several years ago..there was a big national news story about some Fla. cities that brugs were used as drugs..they are after all terribly hallucenogenic...so some kids were using the plants to get high and certain city councils outlawed the plants..the kids call this drug "Jungle juice" its a real bad high and can cause death..some kids here use the native Jimson Weed seeds to do the same thing. So when the government cracks down on brugs its because of virus and the illegal use that can come from these plants.
Brugie, Thank you very much for calling the attention regarding this subject which I felt did not make too much
impact, considering the importance that I feel it has.
It is looking like PROHIBITION (Dec. 1919 to Dec. 1933) that stopped the selling of alcohol in America, that produced an underground culture for smuggling alcohol.
Do they want to create this current with seeds, cuttings and plants ? Don't they realise that millions of people enjoy gardening and that gardening plays a beneficial role in mental health? What would be the impact on civil liberties?
I'm far away from the USA but I do enjoy to maintain correspondance and camaraderie with my gardening friends, so this will affect me also, although I intend to CONTINUE trading even IF I loose many of my trades.....

Kyle, I am real happy to read your lines. Hope for all of you, that this law will not pass and democracy will win.
We had and still have the same drug problem with Datura here in Germany with some dead youths. Brugmansia does not have the high hallugenocenics here as in their homeland but the Thornapple does. Thornapple tea can be bought in any drugstore,no recipy from a phys. is needed, D. strammonium grows wild. But it doesnt need Brugmansia or Datura, in Europe are Solanaceen, such as Atropa belladonna or Hyoscyamus niger, which contains such high concentrations of alkaloids, that a brugmansia or Datura would turn white of jealousy. Especially the boulevard press cried to prohibite Angels Trumpets, but good for us, that scientifics talked and explained how silly it would be to ban this one plant where the natives are found just around the corner.
