Today I searched through the LBJ website. I found a candida Estella, double white. I assume it is a european import. It does not have double white flowers but is a single flowering candida in orange. It was named by my friend, Mme Blin.
The real B. x candida ' Estella '
I just went and looked at the site - you're right - double white flowers - no picture yet. Why do I have the feeling that we're going to have to check with you before we order anything from anywhere?
Mme. Blin did beautiful work.
It might not be the fault of LBJ. It could have been delievered to them as a double white. It could turn out to be double white, but which one? There is such a mess in many european nurseries. They want to make money in the first place, many of them dont care about a correct naming and just as many offer plants without any knowledge. They cannot recoignize a aurea x suaveolens hybrid or a versicolor from a Multi such as Amarillo Paja.
Is there a brug photo library anywhere? Somewhere where we can be sure that the name/photo/description are correct?
How I wish we were able to buy Brugs from Monika. Then we would be sure what we were getting.
There is no photo libary. Just my book which represents my collection. Since Mme Blin, the late Mrs. Neu and myself have been the only Brugmansia breeders over many years and we worked close together, most plants and hybrids are our products. LBJ has a Cumbay in its list. The correct name is Cumbaya, the breeder is Dr. Holguin in Ecuador. But I know the retailer, who has its with the name Cumbay in its list and the ways, it finally reached LBJ under this name.
Well Monika - I think your next book is going to have to be the new Brug photo dictionary with yours, Mme Blin's and Mrs Neu's pictures in it. That would certainly end all the confusion as well as force the various nurseries to upgrade their brug lists.
That's one of Tonny's main desires in starting the hybridizers assc. Getting correct names to correct plants.
where is he anyway??????/ has anyone heard from him??
Monika,
Madamoiselle Blin created a stunning plant!! My heart leaps everytime you post pictures. I'm glad to see you are back and that you and hubby are feeling much better.

Very lovely indeed.
tiG, I think he has been moving but I thought he'd be back by now. He's probably planning where he's going to put all his plants on his new property. LOL
I thought he said he'd be back on the 10th or 11th. Hope they haven't been running into problems!!
I hope not too. Come out, come out where ever you are Tonny and let us know you're ok.
I think Cala said that he would be gone from the 10th or 11th until the 18th. I emailed him a couple of days ago and the reply I got was one of the automated ones and it said he would be back the 18th. I think it was that day that I wrote. It might just take some time to get his new email account set up too. That is all I know.......
oh, see! I never get anything right!! LOL!!
Hey tiG, my memory isn't very good anymore and I could have it all screwed up. Doing good to get out of bed in the mornings and this morning was no exception. Colder than heck and so windy. The greenhouse with two heaters going was only at 50 degrees and the cold is really supposed to hit tonight.
Brugie, we're getting really cold here too tonight and tomorrow. It's 26 degrees right now. Propane man came yesterday and filled the tank for the greenhouse so I feel better now. It cost $77.00 to heat it for two weeks. The Brugs are thankful though. :)
Ouch!! That is a pretty hefty heat bill. Mine is only being heated by two electric heaters. It is only 8 ft. by 10 ft. That would make a huge difference. I went out this morning at 6:30 and it was 50 degrees in there, but will be colder tonight, so don't know what will happen. Right now I'm mainly dealing with garden vegies and annuals in the greenhouse with about 5 brugs. Everything else is in the house yet. Normally, one heater will do it. I think the most it has cost me for a month is about $50. I just don't show Jim the light bill. :-) Just now I had to open it up a bit as it was nearly 80 degrees in there.
