Mobisu - a heat resisting B. x flava hybrid

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I dont know any better B. x flava - hybrid as Mobisu. The flowers are yellow-pink-peach in Summer. The fragrance can be noticed several Meters away. Flowering time is from March to July and from end of August to December (at my place).

That is beautiful.is it one of your hybrids?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Its now about 10 years old and bred by a Lady in Switzerland. She died several years ago.

Very different, I love the peach ones.

How many flava colors are there,or is it so many they can't be counted?I want to try a flava but need a "beginners" plant.....

Now can we get that to breed to an arborea...cross the seedlings to each other and then cross any in color to Rothkirch?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm so confused. Somewhere along the line I thought that an arborea X sanguinea created a flava. Can someone straighten me out on this?

Hmm, what does a flava x arborea x (arborea x vulcanicola) create? Do you think its possible to cross something like the above to an aurea x suaveolens x versicolor?

Finally! Thank you Monika - I've been looking for a picture of this one everywhere. Was beginning to wonder if it really existed.

Its in my book - with picture, Liz!
A sanguinea x arborea creates a x flava. Mobisu is such a cross but the hybrids can differ in color, they do not always come in yellow. Forget about breeding vulcanicola into it, Brugman. Dr Preissel did and not one of these really beautiful colored hybrids survived. They have disappeared from the sceneIt would be worth a try, crossing it with Rothkirch. I could do this. I have a large Mobisu Alley tree and several rothkirchs.

Vulcanicola bred into the mix made them too virus prone or weak in some other manner? More prone to wet feet? Ahh, what about the pollen? If one of them produced just one flower and perhaps this pollen was placed back to a flava or an arborea...maybe the parent might have a short life, but what about the next generation or the generation after that? If one could simply get pollen from one flower from each of these crosses...I just have to believe that eventually one would get lucky. As he saved pollen from any of these now deceased hybrids for possible future use? Ahh, but to be truthful, the Mobisu x Rothkirch sounds wonderful as well. Perhaps,... exceedingly so.

Brugman, this was a discussion between Dr, Preissel and me. I asked him, what future he sees in producing these hybrids. The vigorness, sturdyness and healthyness of arborea got completely lost in these hybrids. He admitted it but he was breeding only for the colors, that are possible in these crosses. The dutch nurseries, always on the ball when there is a chance to make money, did not want them..... too sensitive, too many losses!

Monika,
This is one that is on my list from you. I love the coloring of this plant. Absolutely stunning.

Why not breed for vigor and sturdiness in these crosses then and let the color get lost in the mix instead? One could always breed for color later. I must confess if I was going to make those crosses, ie...I had the pollen to do so....I would personally breed for strength and vigor first and foremost. Knowing that the color was hidden in the mix would be enough to start with something so apparently tricky. All of my crosses are breed for vigor and earliness of blooms first and foremost. Hence, I know I could be creating much nicer colored flowers, but I have this theory that if one can create a line of early bloomers then one can also create more crosses and thereby get more generations and hence...just maybe get lucky. I hate to see sacrifices in hardiness for the sake of the flower shape or color. If one creates something that is completly sterile or can only be grown in under the most optimum of conditions then what has one really created?

Love the color. Absolutely beautiful.

I'm drooling.

Mobisu has virus but I dont know, which one. The leaves are mottled but the plant doesnt seem to care. Its a strong grower, its the first time that I have been able to raise a Tree from a sanguinea or x flava.
