I inherited this plant from my Mom. She received it about fifty years ago as a gift from my dad. Now its my turn to take care for the Clivia.
50 year old Clivia
This plant is a piece of Familiy rememberances. I dont know who in the familiy is willing to continue when I will be gone.
WOW.I didn't know they lived that long.I have a few that are a year and a half old, still small,Do I have to leave them in my will?
Very pretty. I have never tried one of these yet, but after seeing this picture, it might just have to go on my "To Buy" list.
See post below.

it's beautiful. Have a dear friend here (CC) that blessed me with one this year. I'm very proud to have it. I love plants with our family history in them, and I'm glad you have this beautiful piece of your mom.
I have a yellow one, picture under house plants. It is about 7 years old, has bloomed three times, until I separated it into two plants, now waiting for both to get rootbound again.
Yours' is a beauty. I bought 3 red ones, hope they are as red as yours!
They bloom easy, every year. They need a strict rest, no water from August until February. Clivia doesnt like changing positions toward the light. The pot should be marked. This plant was never seperated. It has up to 10 flower stems each year. Young plant can be expected to bloom after 7 years.
Monika, Ours at work are blooming now..they really draw a lot of attention...:-)
These are very attractive plants. By the way, where do you work? It seems for me to be in an botanical garden or larger nursery. How much I would loved to learn in a nursery, but I had to do what the parents deceided. It was common in these times. I wanted also to study archeology but was not allowed by my parents. I love these old bones and skulls in the Senckenberg Museum at Frankfurt, imagine, that they once were alive. But enough, I am getting sentimental. It might be bothering to you Kyle.
Monika, it's beautiful!! I have one that's 20 years old that DH bought for me. The most spikes it's had was 3. I separated it a couple of years ago and almost killed it. I've decided to leave it alone from now on, and if I want more I will plant the seeds. I have several small plants from seed, they aren't difficult to get to germinate, but take years to bloom.
Susie:
I did the same with my yellow one, divided it, almost killed me!! Rootbound, heavy, unhandy trying to separate, broke a lot of the roots, now they are slowly coming back, don't know what posessed me to separate it, except I saw three distinct plants, lost one in the move. Do not know why I needed more plants!!!
WOW it can live for years, I am glad you all take good care of this plants for sure live longer. I would love to have some few seeds if anyone have some.
Redrose, I have one ripe seed and if I can remember where I put it, I'll mail it to you Monday.
Off topic just a bit - I started two yellow clivia from seed about 3 years ago. They look like about 10 years from blooming. What can I do to help these babies. Thanks a bunch!!! Brenda
