OH NO!! first seed popped and has the brown seed thingy attached. I know I read something about that, but can't recall what!! It is a FP and it is my FIRST baby to sprout. I've been waiting 20 days for others. I just can't lose it. I have been misting it for a day - anything else I should do? I am about to go into mourning....
first seed - trouble??
You can gently squeeze the seed head and it will generally pop right off. Other than that, you can peel it from its sides and the seed leaves will pop out undamaged. Just peel a bit of the outter cork a bit at a time. No worries.
I'm finding if I leave the seedlings under the dome they seed coat stays moist enough for the seed leaves to push it off by themselves. Usually I remove the dome when seedlings start to sprout to avoid damping off but I haven't had a brug seedling damp off yet. They seem to be pretty sturdy right from the get go. I be-headed a lot of them trying to pry it off.
Good point PoppySue.
