Good for you CC!! - [you won't get much sympathy from us ;] The potato vine sounds like it will be awesome! I'm sure you won't have any troubles growing any of them. There's a pic of a red kohleria in the Logees catalog. It's really pretty.

I have an Episcia and love it. Nothing is easier to take care of. Mine was just a piece someone sent me and it is happily growing right along in a sunny window. I have been able to share pieces on a few occasions and I just got it last year.

Crested..the potato vine needs sun, warmth, and water when it dries out....clip once in a while to shape it.

thanks, does it get big, should I build a trellis or just bamboo stakes?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

CC, I just let my potato vines hang out of baskets and pots. They will get pretty lengthy and like Kyle said, you can cut them to shape. Then put the cuttings in a glass of water, and BINGO, you have more vines. They root quickly, pot them up and don't put into direct sun for a few days until the roots have taken hold. They will catch up with the momma plant quickly.

They can grow on the grow as a cover too. Would be pretty underneath your brugs. Save the potatoes in the fall, and you can start your own next year.

this doesent look like the sweetpotato plants(blackie,etc....) this looks way different. It says it gets seeds in my book.can you still grow it in a basket?

CC, how about a picture?

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

CC, what color is yours? Mine is the white one. This thing can grow all over the place if you don't watch out, but is very pretty. I put mine in the greenhouse every winter. It has always come back (knock on wood). I checked on mine today and it has sprouted again, about 6 inches tall now, so hopefully it will do good again. I keep mine in a pot to keep it under control.

Sorry, but I forgot, I also have one called 'St Vincent lilac', which is in the same family, lavender in color, and vines like crazy.

Guess what I bought today??????? An Impatiens "Niamensis" or the Congo Cockatoo Plant..the little flowers look like colourful parrots hanging in a palm tree..(most unusual!) Elaine

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gosh, I'd like to see a picture of that too. Where do you all find these unusual plants. We don't have any nurseries around here, that I know of, that carry this kind of stuff.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I wanna see a picture too!

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Well now, isn't that an unusual plant. Sure nothing like I was expecting. I wonder how big your plant will get, Elaine? Looks like a great conversation piece to me.
