HELP! got highspeed hookup&can;t get email!!!!

Okay, Now. I have an iMac. Brand new. Just got the highspeed hook up today. They came and did it, They had ME call to set up account. They had me change Preferences and changed idenity(changed email address) Changed mail servers Incoming and outgoing, thats it. Then I went to
Went to Control Panel ~internet~personalemail. changed that.
I can get an email that I send to myself from myself. I CANNOT get any incoming email from anyone else. EXCEPT myself. ANY ONE WITH ANY MAC KNOWLEDGE OUT THERE????? Sure would appreciate it
