I thought it was free!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

The guy from the department of agriculture called today to set up my inspection. He then informed me that every time they come out to inspect any brugs I order from out of the country its $25.00.It wasent clear if the inspection BEFORE I get the permit approved was $25.00 too.I want to wait till the 2 trees come down to set up the greenhouse so I asked if I could wait a few weeks for the inspection.Chucks gunna have a fit when I add up the money these suckers are gunna cost,AFTER I get them.I want to order from Monika and Hodniks,Would it be better to co-ordinate the shipping so they get inspected at the same time? Can I do that?

CC,
I would if I were you...time them so they arrive within a week of one another. Then the inspector can inspect both shipments. It is costly, but in the long run just think how worthwhile it will be for you. Remember to keep them isolated from your other brugs, perhaps indoors.

Crested...nothing worthwhile comes cheap!! Like me..I'm not cheap either!!LOL back to the subject...it may be expensive..but just remember you can't send any of these to anyone for 2 years.Just think for those two years you can be enjoying something the rest of us wait for!!:-)

Oh ,I know its gunna be worth it in the long run,(and Kyle,I can see you being a very high maintenance kinda guy)but it was a shock, the permits free, but they get ya everytime they come out to inspect. And i know they cant be shared for 2 years or propigated. But like Eric said, pollen!I can handle the money, but its just ,I gotta pay someone to tell me how I'm allowed to grow my brugs......

Wow, didn't know there was a fee, but we pay a fee already for getting the green houses inspected. Sometimes the inspector is out in the area and just pops in to see if I need anything. That's the state inspector. Hope the USDA doesn't charge me for the two times they came out on the wild goose chase, lol.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Two times Cala? You mean they came more than once?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

CC, If I had the room to keep the Brugs isolated from the others I have I would be trying for the necessary permits also.Somehow I'd find a way to tighten the belt and find the money. After all I don't really have to go out for that pizza and I don't really need new underwear quite yet.LOL
Just to be able to order a Charleston, Esmeraldas, Lamour and Rosalie would be well worth the sacrifice.Ahh just dreaming.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Yep, they were convinced that I had some brugs from Colombia the second time, can you believe that? Does anyone even sell them in Colombia? I sure don't have the money to fly down there and get them from the wild, lol. My regular state inspector stood up for me. He loves my brugs and passifloras and always has to look at them. He is trying to convince me to go for a master's degree at the university, lol.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

You would think after the first time they would'nt want to waste there time coming back again.Wonder if they would possibly be gullible enough to listen a third time? LOL
Listen to your inspector. With a Masters just think how far you can really go.

Cala,
You mean to tell me you don't routinely fly to South America in search of Brugmansia cuttings and seeds? And here I thought...Ah , someone must be tipping them off to your secret rendevous. Okay, I confess, I did it. You know jealous me. Sheesh...Columbia?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Brugman, yeah I bought me one of those big airplanes and flew down there and smuggled them back!! That's why I'm so rich, from all the black market brugs I've been selling, lol.
I would never have dreamed it was you that told on me, hmmmmmm, I'll have to get even now!!

Changing subject....has anyone heard from Tonny lately? I haven't seen him post for a while.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

He is in the middle of moving. He won't have his computer till the 18th or somewhere thereabouts.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Okay, I knew he was moving, but didn't remember the dates he was going to be abscent from here. You guys have a great time this weekend. I'll be thinking about you. We had over 70 degrees today and tomorrow is to be only 39*. Just can't seem to get spring to stay.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Brugie,we were over 70 today and tomorrow is low 30's,But I saw the first killdeer and that means its Spring!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I've only seen two of them in the last 15 years here. The one that was here was trying to make a next down in the orchard. I hated to mow the grass for fear I'd get the nest, but she moved on to the edge of the road. Must have felt the drivers out there were better than me on my mower.
