Has anyone tried??

Has anyone tried taking a cutting and slicing it horizontally ( along the grain - like carrot sticks) and rooted it log style? This sounds like one for you Cala - seems to that if it would work you could get at least 2 or more from each cutting. Maybe dry the sliced side a bit before planting?

Liz, It would have to have an "eye" to make a plant. Guess what I found out today?? You can grow brugs from root cuttings!! The teeny tiny cuttings I took a couple of weeks ago are rooted also and have doubled in size. I will try splitting the log and see what happens. I'll use something I have plenty of.

Cala,
I'm also trying the root cuttings with some Maya roots...I'll let you know what happens.

What kind of root cuttings? Mine seem to be a fibrous mass.

Pick a root that's about as big around as your little finger. The end that was closest to the plant needs to go up. If you can't remember which end is which, lay it on it's side and cover lightly with soil and keep warm.

it won't hurt the plant to cut those bigger roots?

TiG, this was a huge plant to start with. I broke off the root where it was growing into the ground and it made a plant. I couldn't believe it. I didn't even really mean to experiment!!

So this would be perfect for those of us who plan on using Monika's way of planting brug pots in the ground and then digging up in fall. When we sever the horizontal roots from the pot we can root them. Like a poppy?

Liz, that's it!! that's what I was thinking we could do.
