Luminosa as a tree

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Luminosa is one of my alley trees. The flower looks much like a aurea, but its growth habit is more that of a versicolor.

Monika..it definately has aurea qualities. Very nice!

This tree, shown on the picture, withstood frost -6°C for two nights with damages, but did not kill him. Next year, I made cuttings and raised e new tree as the trunk and the branches with the damages did not look very nice.

Nice,....extra-divine. Not extra-ordinary, but extra-divine.

Monika,
Do you need any help this summer...I could cut your grass, water the plants..LOL....I just love looking at your pictures. I guess the problem is if I went to Germany who would do my work around here....that's another subject. :0)

I think we are all in danger of going blind here with the pictures Monika posts. Its just that simple. Either Monika stops posting pictures or I have to have surgery to correct my vision. I think that might be sensory overload though. I can't imagine the pain you guys are experiencing...those of you with 20/20 must be miserable indeed.

That one is gorgeous!!! Would love to have it in my yard.

You and me both Hibiscus!
Monika - which ones do you have in your allee? Do you always have the same ones, in the same spot? Do you plant the ones you want to cross beside each other? How do keep the insects from doing your pollinating for you?

Not all trees come to the same places as years before. But some do. Fandango and Anouschka do not like the bright midday sun. There place is shaded from 11 - 15°° hrs. Charleston has its place also. The trees are placed by colors and every year a new tree joins. But I am getting to have too many trees and another alley is planned behind the house. There is lots of space.

I have following named trees at the moment: Rosa Traum, Sommertraum, Fandango, Anouschka, Pink Lady, Baby Bolero,
Troika, Velvet Lady, Candy Bell, Favorite's Delight, Charming, Habanera, Charleston, Carmencita, Duftglöckchen, Pink Delight, Natascha, Florabelle, Floretta, Carly, Rosalie, Rosamond, Charisma, Mobisu, Schneeflöckchen, Kurpark Bad Salzschlirf, Bolero, Marie Gerrits, Doppelposaune, two Ecuador Pinks, a not so large Rothkirch
and several unnamed doubles.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

My head is spinning just thinking of all these at full size.
Do you open your garden to visitors? If so it must be hard to get them to leave.
Are Florabelle and Floretta new? I don't think Ive seen the names anywhere.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

My garden is not open for visitors but that doesnt keep them from coming, especially on nice and warm summer sundays, when sitting very relaxed in the garden. Florabelle and Floretta are older hybrids. Floretta is a sister to Fandango. Its not so pretty but good for breeding purposes.

Monika,
You should be very proud of your tree because they are so pretty.

Monika..how do you keep the passers-by from stealing wood off the trees? They steal cuttings off the trees in yards in Calif. Its cheaper than trying to find them in nurseries.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

MOnika, what a splendid tree.
Kyle, really? I cant imagine people would have the nerve to do that....But, I guess you would know, I am assuming that you had cuttings stolen from your trees?
Unless people knew what it was though, they wouldnt know to steal cuttings would they? I would never even entertain the idea, becuase I know that I woulndt like it if someone did that to one of my trees or plants, however, I'm very generous if someone comes by and we start talking about the different plants I have, they go home arms laden. Even last year, when I just learned about brugs, I had friends come over and even though they didnt ask for any, I gave them brugs becuase I was so excited...
I dont think in general that gardeners would go around stealing, maybe I am living in a delusional world, but I couldnt imagine it.

Pebble....I have gardeners steal plants from our riverfront public gardens on a regular basis. Dwarf conifers..they dig them up...cuttings,bulbs the whole deal. I think its the work of a collector. The things they stea ..are plants that they know are rare.As for the brug trees..if someone sees a different color blooming..they figure..Oh one vbranch won't hurt..till another person and another person feel the same way..soon no tree!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

You are so right Kyle. Our garden is fenced in, thats common here. Visitors are being watched by my watchdog - DH.
10 years ago, the brugmansia group was invited by Dr. Preissel to the Herrenhäuser Gärten. We had been guests but it did not matter. Somebody of the group broke a strong branch out of a well formed Tiara Tree. It was such a big hole that the plant was destroyed. Many member stole what they could grab. I dont like this kind of people. To ask for a cutting doesnt cost anything.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

We have people stop and steal stuff in broad daylight at the nursery. They will dig up flowers from the beds out front. When my mom died, someone came in and stole some huge baskets even though the gate was closed with a sign on it. They parked in the dentist's office lot next door, walked down a steep hill and stole them. I had someone steal a nice hosta by pulling in the parking lot, grabbing it and leaving.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

OK,I'm guilty,I was at McDonalds and stole some seeds off one of the plants.I swear,I didn't hurt the plant.....

Hamilton, Canada

The only thing to stop people from digging, pulling, nipping plants is a low fence with a huge, flesh hungry dog.

Joydie, we have a huge six foot deep ditch and a gate which someone backed their truck into and and knocked it down and stole our horse trailer!! If they are determined to steal, I don't think one can stop them.
We have a ferocious looking dog, but he is a big chicken in a doberman suit!!

Monika - why did you select those particular trees? Was it the size, colour, a favorite?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I love trees generally. Luminosa is a very heavy bloomer and seeing it loaded with flowers is really breathtaking. The picture was taken end of September. I select my trees by flowering habit, it must be a heavy bloomer, have beautiful flowers and a strong fragrance.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Monika . . . Another lovely brug tree.
