bird of paradise

this winter was so bad with the cold that even though i covered my bird of paradise the leaves turned brown and died. the trunk looks fine. should i cut off the dead and how low should i cut?

thank you ma vie. it says it can be pruned so i will prune the dead and hope for the best.

The one I have has small needle like leaves like the on in the last hyperlink! I wonder if the blooms get as big as the other one?

Eyes... it probably will when the temperature gets warmer and fertilized appropriately.
