Arctic Wintergreen

Pink Wintergreen, Alpine Pyrola, Pyrola asarifolia ssp. asarifolia [ssp. purpurea]

This plant grows along the edges of my yard. It's leaves are oval and a dark waxy green. In mid summer, it throws up a stem of pink flowers. It transplants well into the rockgarden, and spreads itself by runners underground. It's a great groundcover and enjoys our moist, cool climate.

There's an old friend! I remember these as being some of the first flowers I fell in love with up there. Not, of course, as much as the twinflower....lol

Weezingreens, that looks cool. I have only Pyrola rotundifoli in my yard. And a false Pyrola. They look both cool. I planted them last year but don't know if the false pyrola is still alive. :( Here is several neat Pyrola species in Finland. I saw them in my mums childhood home area in Perniö.

Evert: I've enjoyed this little plant from the first time I saw it. It grows all over the edges of my property, a glossy dark green round leaf.. then the little shoot of pink flowers. They send out runners that connect underground, and they are quite easy to transplant. I have never tried to collect seed, but will do so this fall. If I have any luck, I'll send you some!

Nice, I will try to collect you seeds also, I just have no idea what size they are and how do they look like, heh :}

Same here, Evert. Guess we've got to be able to find them before we can collect them!
