Iochroma, Solanaceae. It says it is a relative of the Brugmansia. Is it easy to grow and is it upright growing or vining? Would like to order one but I'd like to know how it grows first since I live in a cold climate.
Has anyone grown....
I'm interested too Snow. Have a couple of them ordered for spring shipment. Have heard that some grow up and others grow out, depending on the variety. Can't really remember what I did order, but one blue and one red, if I remember right. I know that someone here at Daves has already received their Iochromas. Maybe they have an idea already how they grow and will post here. I also got that great looking plant on the cover of Logee's new catalog. Can't wait to see it. Hope I'm not disappointed. Has your snow melted off? We might get more of the white stuff on Saturday. Moving into the greenhouse next week. Can't wait.

I am not sure how its grows but I also have some coming when weather chaanges for the better. I have the Indigo, Royal Blue, Wine Red and the Grandiflora on order from Kartuz. If all works out okay I will be more than willing to pass along if interested.
Ok guys...heres the scoop! Iochromas have small tubelike flowers..some in very metallic like qualities. The foliage has a very acrid smell when crushed...and they are very poisonous like brugs and oleanders. They grow upward and sometimes spreading and get very woody stems.A bush in full bloom is very showy....pruning doesn't always work..because they grow the way they want to!!LOL A nice plant to have(I used to have several) they grow well in Southern Calif outdoors..they (like brugs) want cool nights and warm days. feed less than brugs.
Kyle, Thanks for the info. If they just grow up I'm all set but if they get too spready(is that a word?)I won't have room to bring them inside in the winter. After all next fall I've got to make room for the Brugs again, and probably many more than I wintered this year. LOL
Brugie, we got 4 more in. yesterday.
Waterloo,Kartuz is where I might order from. They do look beautiful.
I ordered the wine red from Kartuz. I have had mine for a couple of weeks now. I doesn't seem to be spreading out, but is growing up. The flowers kinda remind me of something, but can't put my finger on it. It is a petit plant. I wouldn't have called this a wine color, but then it really isn't a pink either. Still I think this is pretty. Wonder what it is going to do once it is outside.
Kyle, does it make a good container plant?
I noticed my Iochroma Grandflora coming up outside yesterday...

Glory, does it die back to the ground every year, or is it warm enough there that the topgrowth survives?
Diane and I ordered some from Kratuz earlier this year. Hers are doing great, mine are barely hanging on. The plants were in great shape when we received them. Diane's even survived a double mailing. Maybe she will see this thread and post her tips, you sure don't want any of mine. LOL Pam
Judith,
This is the first winter that I had it in the ground..we had some cold weather here so it did freeze back.
