Brugmansia Suav. "Full Moon"

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

This was from some of my early crosses. Its flowers are the same size or bigger than Hyb.Suav"Kyle's Giant White" its sibling. The flowers are very large and have that characteristic musky kinda smell. Personally I like the more clear or citrus like smelling varieties. But these have real big blooms. My hand is wide anyway..so take that into consideration when you look at the pic. :-)

And it has six of those little pointy thingies. :-)

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Brugie..the number or spurs(points) varies from flower to flower...you can have several on a plant with six...and the rest with 5..just a quirk.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Good grief! How wide is that across? I can't even imagine what a whole tree of them would look like. That must be quite a sight~~

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Wow! That is a big flower.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

The name certainly fits the flower. What a beautiful white!!!! What did you cross to get this very large white flower?

Rose Hill, NC(Zone 8a)

i have a "Full Moon" too
it's 8" across
one of my crosses from last year

Yes, I have one exactly 8 by 8 inches as well. I don't particularly like the larger flowered ones, but I do love them if they have a strong sweet fragrance. I kept mine simply because it has a super strong sweet fragrance and is a most vigourous grower...that, and it flowered in its first year. I have never seen 6 points on my hybrid though. I have another small petite one with miniature roundish seedpods that routinely has 6 to 5 points. I don't think its a fluke that the one hybrid routinely has 6-5 points while the other one never has 6 points. I think if it was a fluke all of my hybrids would have 6 points from time to time. Of course, perhaps they have and I have just missed the one or two with 6 points. At any rate, some hybrids tend to show this more or less to some degree and I have to believe their is a reason for it. Nothing happens for no reason.

Kyle, check this one out. This is my Tragedy 2001 and I too have large hands and arms. This thing was huge.

Seven spurs on this one.

FSH, TX

Ahh, Brugie, now that is a nice one. I must confess I did keep that hybrid of yours. It is being grown in another yard though so as not to outcross with my aurea hybrids. I had almost forgotten about it as I have not seen it bloom yet. That is most certainly a large hybrid though. Have you measured that one yet?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Brugie..that is a nice one....seems like certian suaveolens crosses yield very large white flowers. Now if we can stablize a colored hybrid with huge flowers.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Brugnanny I'll have to check my cross book and see what it came from. Some of my early attempts with hybridizing these guys went without records for a while..

FSH, TX

Looks like Rosalind Sarver might be a good one to use for that goal Kyle. Are both of her parents in color? Very nice hybrid.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Brugmansia I'll have to dig out my cross index and see..its been a while since I actively did any crossing so have forgotten some of thses crosses.I did a lot of Versicolor crosses and suaveolens crosses in the past..I also use Jean Pasko a lot.Seems like it was always in bloom when i needed it.With some of the new hybrids I have gotten this year I should be able to get some real nice hybrids comming now that I'm "Back in the Saddle again" Wheres my paintbrush????LOL

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Brugie, This is the first time I've seen a picture of your Tragedy. It's beautiful and so big. Can't wait to see what you come up with this year.

FSH, TX

Yes, new blood makes all the difference in the world. Freezing q-tips myself as they are easier to freeze and can be stored in smaller containers.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Eric, It's really exciting to think of all the new crosses that we should see this year.

FSH, TX

Just remember, I don't keep any seed I am not going to germinate so there should be plenty of seed to go around. I am excited as well to see the new hybrids created from everyones seeds. I just wish there was a way to get rid of the seedlings themselves that I cull. Albeit, this year is going to be a much lighter culling year if I cull any at all from the start this year. Next year rest assured I will be back on track as the new baby will be a year old by then.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Kyle,
Yahoo!!! You are back in the saddle again!!!!

FSH, TX

BrugNanny-I would have to agree with your sentiment. I am as excited as ever about having Kyle back to produce some genuinely beautiful hybrids. With Monika and Kyle producing some of the best hybrids for us, its only a matter of time before we are flooded with more beauties...provided we can talk Kyle into introducing a few more.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Brugmansia
I feel that Kyle will definitely introduce a few more. I am so happy for him and glad that his interest has been renewed. We are all so lucky to have such great folks here and that includes you!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I'm just excited that instead of us hybridizing blindly we have experienced, successful, educated people to help us and show us what we might be able to accomplish if we really do things right....I LOVE IT!!!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Kyle, is it possible to pollinate Full Moon? You know my Pink Delight? The size of the flower fits easy on a man head. But Pink Delight itself is steril, but the pollen is fertil. I could send pollen to you in the summer to pollinate Full Moon if you are interested.
If you havent seen Pink Delight yet, I could post a picture.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

We'd all love to see a picture Monica! Kyle do you have a picture of your Kyle's Giant White? I like the BIG flowers ;o) Eric - you can send your 3 ft long, 2 ft wide ones to me ;-)

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Monika..that would be great..I have several giant white suaveolens hybrids that would be perfect to cross with...I could send some seeds back to you if they take. :-) :-)

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Thank you Monika for that piece of information! I have a Pink Delight. I would never have known it was sterile. I would have tried hopelessly to pollinate it this summer. Can it be used to crosss to a candida double white? Any others we should know about?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I would love to have some seeds. Favorite' Delight is a very large flowering hybrid out of Pink Favorite x Pink Delight.

Liz, where did get PD? You cann pollinate others with PD Pollen. PD itself will not set on pods.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I got it from Hodnik last June. PLEASE don't tell me it can't be.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

If it is my hybrid; no chance to pollinate it.
