I have a very special seedling that came up with no cotyledon, planted 1-14, been up since the 1st of Feb. It's still hanging in, about 2 1/2" high. Is there any chance in the world that it will put out a shoot from bottom or anything?
what do you think are chances?
I have had seedlings with most of the cotyledons missing. If the very center bit of tissue has not been removed it stands a chance. If that is gone then bye bye.
I don't know if that's gone or not to tell the truth. It does seem calloused on the tip, but is still green and I think it's grown.
If the growth tip is gone the only chance for it is tissue culture. I have had decapitated seedlings make it for quite a long time. Expect no growth at all unless the very center of the seedling top is undamaged.
well, as I have no clue about tissue culture or the supplies needed, I'll just wait and see if it makes it til Cala gets here, and perhaps she can do something with it. thanks!!
Tonny, that is amazing. You had sure better post a picture of that one if you get a descent one. I guess the rule of thumb is never say never. Never say never again. Unlikely, improbable, or I don't know the reason for...but never say never.
tiG, I had several of these but only two still green. One of them is looking like it is getting thicker at the top. I got the magnifying glass out yesterday to look at it and can't tell if anything is going to happen or not. I'm hanging on to it just in case as it too, is a special seed.

I have one that came up with a white stem & white seed leaves. The seed leaves shriveled up ... but now it's putting out green leaves. It looks odd because the stem is still white. I think it's gonna make it - it's working on its 3rd set of green leaves now. It's from Erics mix of seeds.
I'm liking this ,mutant seedlings.....
