Good morning farmers. Azalea, I am glad you joined us, thanks for sharing those memories. It is about 15* out this morning (about 4:30) but there is no wind so it felt warmer. The fire in the woodstove has been fed a couple of logs and is starting to produce a little heat. Tonight(morning) was another busy one for the sheep flock, I brought in a single lamb and it's mom, a set of twins and their mom, another ewe who had one lamb in the field and another in the barn later, and a granny ewe who followed me in and had lots of mucous showing. She picked a corner to have her lambs in so I added some straw for her and left her alone since we were out of the large pens where there is room for a ewe to move around and not lay on the lambs she already has. On my first trip outside I found a ewe on her side sort of rolled onto her back but not appearing to be in labor. I rolled her over and got her feet under her and went to look for lambs, and in a few minutes she had gotten to her feet and walked away. On my last check outside she was back in the same place, I went to get her up again but she had died. She was only a 3 year old so maybe she was on her back too long? We'll probably never know, some of the old timers say about sheep that they just pick a day to die and there isn't much you can do to talk them out of it. Yesterday was a beautiful day, the temp got up to 40 and I went riding for a while but got too cold because of the wind. Maybe today will be better. Off to sleep some more, have a good day everyone, count your blessings.
