Something to Think About

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

While preparing a dinner of Swiss Steak, it occurred to me that the meat tenderizing hammer is older than some of the people I visit with in Dave's Garden. As I pounded the roundsteak, I tried to remember where I had gotten it..an aluminum head with nasty teeth and a red painted handle. It was either something my mother gave me when I first married and moved out of the house, or it was something I bought in 1972 in Luck, Wisconsin when my first husband & I moved up there for a year from Indiana.

If it was a yardsale purchase in Wisconsin, I've had it for 30 years, and it was no spring chicken when I bought it! If it came from my mother, it is no doubt a survivor of the 40's. Come to think of it, the iron dutch oven and lid I'm baking it in are something she used when I was a child.

Come to think of it, I have slipper older than some of the folks at Dave's Garden...man, I'm an old gal! Better get offline and check the potatoes that are boiling on the stove. The steak smell like its about ready. In a half hour or so the Swiss steak that was pounded by a 30-50 year old tool & baked in 40 year old cookware and will be served to a couple old farts that will digest it in 50 year old stomachs! It's sure something to think about!
