Need some advice

(Zone 5a)

I friend of mine wants to send me a Brug versicolor from Herrenhouser Garden but I think she spelled it garten, anyway she didn't tell me how to take care of it. I would like to know how tall and what type of care to give it, soil, feeding and if full or part sun?
This is my first time trying to grow one of these plants so I am not at all familar with it. I know we have a lot of brug experts here so where better to ask this question, thanks in advance.

I'm going to let the real brug experts answer this one. I have a couple - one from Hodnik (came rooted) and one from Brugman - rooted here- just lucky. You have VERY nice friends!

Liz thank you, and I am lucky to have such friends. My friends here call me plant lady, so they are always trying to give me something to grow. All the people my niece works with at John Dere are gardners, so we trade a lot of things and always buying each other plants. I haven't received it yet but I just wanted to know how to take care of it until spring. I guess I'll have to get on the internet and check for the one that she is sending me so I won't kill it lol I'll post a picture when it arrives.

Wind, If it is a rooted plant just put it in a large pot since it will grow very quickly and put in a sunny window. If it is a cutting put it in a pot with a good potting soil which is not heavy, I use ProMix which is a soiless mix. Keep it damp but not wet. Hopefully someone here that has grown one will jump in.Once it is established they like lots of water and fertilizer.

Snowhermit thanks for the information, I did a little search for brugs and came up with a lot of information. I just hate to hop and skip around to different web pages before I can find the answer to one question.
I have learned a lot about them, so I think I've pretty much got the idea. I have posted the question in a few of the other garden clubs that I belong to and have gotten a lot of info there as well, again thanks so much.

wind, wish I could help you out but I am totally clueless when it comes to these plants but will bring this back to the top in hopes that you can get more information from someone who is more of an expert in growing these babies.

windsurffer - run a daves search under double orange. Brugman had it first last year and referred to it as double orange instead of HG. Probably didn't want us all climbing down his throat for it.. It seems to me he said something about rooting it then.

(Zone 5a)

Thanks Liz, I have so much information now that I don't know what to do with it all, again thanks :)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Liz, I thought he said his double orange wasn't HG, or am I having sometimers again?

(Zone 5a)

Hey what is the difference between the HG and the double orange?

Kit... here's a url for u to learn more about brugs... http://home.att.net/~perennials/menu.html HTH... ma vie

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

there are several double oranges, just one is named Herrenhauser Garten.

Wind,
I think the double orange that is running around the USA at this time is the HG...maybe you might want to check with Monika or Eric.

Ah - but the beauty is that it's a triple.

(Zone 5a)

Thanks MaVie that is one of the first web pages that I found, and it has a lot of information that I can use.

Glory I will post a picture as soon as I receive it. I guess from what I have read maybe I should wait until it's in bloom then post the picture.

Liz I think that your right I took another look and it does look like it's a tripple and it is beautiful. I know that you brug lovers must have this one, so if someone could post a picture of theirs I would apprecited it.

Liz,
You are right...it is a triple.

Wind,
I have had mine for about a year now and it has not bloomed. :( I have tried super bloom and all but I guess it will bloom when it's ready.

Hg needs lots of heat to bloom. Thats the secret.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

u're very welcome Kit :)! my pleasure to give a helping hand.

FSH, TX

Glory, mine has bloomed repeatedly and yes it is HG. From what I can tell, this one takes extreme heat and heavy watering to bloom heavily.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

my bad, this some-timers is getting to me!! LOL! I ought to have plenty of blooms this summer if it needs extreme heat!

FSH, TX

Try closing it up in your greenhouse and keeping her well watered.

I am so excited and can't wait for the plant to arrive, of course I have to wait until she gets off of vacation.
It is just as well, I have so many plants started that I won't have room for it right now. I still need to add more grow lights.

Glory,Brugmansia, and tiG you guys will have to post a picture of your lovley plants as soon as they are in bloom, I can't wait to see them.

Thanks Brugmansia for the tip I had no idea. I guess I couldn't have gotten a lovelier plant to be my first and who knows I might even catch the brug bug lol.
