Sniveling here

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

the new projected low tonight is 15-20, Glory, MsJen and Roz, is yours lower too? Wishing i had a DH like eclipse...about twice a year he says i should get some kind of plant....
Publix gave me about 35 paper bags, have them over coming back plants with pots over them, some with pots on them with bags over them, and or sheets and towels everywhere. about 40 brugs in the house, what a mess! wondering what i'll find in the morning that i missed....

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Yep.Mid teens are predicted here.I have plants literally stacked on top of each other in the greenhouse.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Arlene, good luck, can you bring any inside?
a pity.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh Arlene, I hope my baby and all of yours will be okay. We had near zero last night so I suppose you guys down south are getting a portion of that cold front. Spring will come one day......just wish I knew when. Hope you all don't loose anything.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Ms. Brugie, your baby is inside. Pebble, i have brought in about 40. have 25-30 planted in the ground that were coming back, and probably 20-25 pots still outside, not to mention my other stuff, roses blooming, bananas, and on and on.....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh Arlene, it just makes me sick to think that you might have frost on the plants in the morning. I hope the forecasters are wrong. Wish I could be there to help you prepare for the cold. Why does this have to happen after we have had such a nice winter up to now.......

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

there's no wind now, it's gonna look like napalm went off. had a 6 foot cestrum full of yellow buds getting ready to bloom, tons of all kinds of sages and other plants coming up, lantana blooming, will my amaryllis die back? my brug seedlings in the ground are on their own. couldn't move the bigger, 20-25 gallon pots, wrapped them really good, have all the sheets and a bunch of towels out in the yard. shouldn't be totally terrible, most of the brugs should come back. still sniveling...what a way to start March!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Arlene, What a shame that the weather is doing a turn around. I will keep my fingers crossed that you won't lose any of your plants.I feel bad for everyone in the warmer climates that already have plants poking out of the ground and then to get a freeze.Keep us updated.

FSH, TX

I have a few outside in the ground and a few inside...here's hoping as I have found ice outside already.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Oh Eric. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too. Ice outside this time of night is not good. Hope you have everything covered. This is one of the times I'm happy to live in the north as all my plants are still sleeping under several inches of snow.Keep us posted.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene..what part of Florida are you in???

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Eclipse, this is GATOR COUNTRY... 12 miles west of Gainesville, UF. this is record breaking cold for this time of year in florida. My DD pitches tomorrow night in this cold, high school softball. and lows near 30 predicted next monday and tuesday....yikes...

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Bless y'all's hearts! I only have five little brugs Cala sent me a month or so ago and they're spending the night in the bathtub (don't trust the greenhouse until I've had it a while). Weather guys said last night was the coldest night in six years and tonight will be almost as cold. Last night's 15 degree cold bit the new clover that's in front of the barn pretty good.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Good luck all of you ~

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Arlene that is so sad. Hope everything makes it. The only thing that I have blooming is a few daffodils and crepping phlox that got done the same way last year. It seems it just won't learn. The magic lilies started coming out last week, not the flower but the leaves and I think they will get the ax tonight,
Good luck to all.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Weather people wrong, low here 26, tied 1941 record low. everything i peaked at looks okay, leaving covered til tomorrow morning.

The baby brug seedlings on their own in the ground most look just fine! gonna run the sprinkler on them a little later. The rest of you have in florida have greenhouses, right? hope you did okay.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

That's great news!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Arlene, glad to hear it wasn't as bad as predicted. It would have been a shame to loose all your loved plants. I know I get pretty scared when we get an unexpected freeze.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

thanks, Liz and Pebble. ended up with 45 or so brugs inside, the plants in the ground i didn't cover are frosted back but will hopefully recover. SH, forgot to tell you your babies are inside, ended up putting them in pots.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Arlene, hang in there.....
by the way, the seeds that you sent me, they are doing great, I would say 96% germination, now the rest is up to me! thanks again for sharing!

FSH, TX

I placed milk jugs full of water around my plants outside. Came outside early this morning and the milk jugs were almost solid ice...guess I'll have to wait till later to see how the plants did. The plants were insulated with plastic garbage bags....

We got down to 23º here this morning....I was in the greenhouse at 1AM making sure the heaters were still going and all was ok in there. Since I use those propane heaters that you attach to a bottle I always check on them before I go to bed.
I also have Amaryllis getting ready to bloom outside but they look fine....the daylilies look great...I do believe we managed to slide through this cold snap with no causalities.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Well didn't have any problems here just broke a few leaves on some brugs when I covered them up and the wind blew them a bit it stayed in the high 30's here was 42 when I got up for work at 350 am. I ducked anothger one
Pete

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

i brought all the potted brugs inside. i looked in the yard this am and the only thing i saw that was affected were a few daylilys.
iris, ruellas and everything else looks well. im not sure how they survived it, but im happy.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm sure glad all of you had so little damage. Now, think about us tonight and tomorrow. We don't have plants outside, but are to get up to 12 inches of snow. This has to be the last big blow, I hope!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

I had 8-10 brugs coming back from the ground frosted...so glad the seedlings look good. supposed to be low in the 50s tomorrow night and 60s saturday night.....go figure...

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

We were 23 this morning too. Everything in the green house survived. We added heat to the rose house, can't afford to lose a house full of roses!! The brugs are happy and warm and blooming. We had sunshine all day and that was good. The species is blooming and smells WONDERFUL!!! My seeds from Eric and Arlene are doing great.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I don't know why I still can't get over the fact that you Floridians get such low temperatures. I think of you permanently in shorts.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Liz, you' re right..we've run the air more than the heater in the last 2 months, actually heater hasn't been on til last night. back to shorts tomorrow. how did your seeds turn out, up yet?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Everything is doing beautifully -much to my (and Brugcrazy's) surprise. Until recently, brug seed has not been what you'd call my forte!
BTW - my postie delivered my mail in shorts today. But what can I say? She works for the Post Office ~~

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Arlene, So glad everything turned out well. Glad you had'nt put the babies outside yet. Thanks for letting me know.I hope those ten Brugs come back for you. I hope Eric makes out OK too. It sounds like he was hit hard with the cold. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Brugie, I feel bad your getting more snow. We got 5" yeaterday and another storm coming this weekend. The weather is really crazy this year.So happy everyone made out well in the south.

Spring is here on the West Coast. Lots of sun and flowers and bulbs popping up everywhere. I haven't had any frost in a while either. Now, we can't plant the brugs out yet as we could get frost again. Just enjoying this wonderful weather with no rain.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Did y'll hear it is supposed to go down to 25 Monday? Arlene, get your bags back out; Glory, check the propane, Ms Jen, bring em back in.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Boy you guys,I don't come here for one day and disater strikes,Did everyone make it ok? Are the brugs safe, are we still going to see a brug forest at Arlenes? Arlene, are you joining the snivel club?I'm sniveling again,I got bumped AGAIN,so I'm on call again. And Chucks Mom got sicker than usual on Tuesday(she has lung cancer) Chuck spent the night there and in the Morning deceided to call an ambulance cause she was so sick.Shes still in there on a ventilator. They're only giving her a 25 percent chance of making it.Theres a black cloud hanging over me.....

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Still sniveling, the cold got my wrapped bananas, my 8 foot confederate rose had been leafing out nicely, my mutabalis and smith parish roses had tons of roses burned off, golden rain trees had been leafing out, frozen off. what a trick, don't know about MS, record lows here from the 30s broken....i did have cannas coming back that were 2 feet tall, azalea flowers and young leaves burned, camellia flowers ruined. not much left for me to cover next time, except a half dozen brugs in 20 gallon pots. will be a breeze...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gosh Arlene, maybe with some time and warm temps your plants will all come back and if they do, you will know they are strong little guys. Good luck. Hope you will be nicely surprised with some time.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

CC - so sorry to hear about yur MIL. I hope they give her the best possible care. I know how rough it is on a family to see loved ones so sick. Give our best to Chuck.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

CC, thinking of all of you here! not a black cloud my dear, just life. it can be grand and it can be cruel.
(((((CC)))))

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

CC, i was posting when you were. so sorry, lot of pain with that, doesn't sound good.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

CC, I missed your post and just now caught it. I'm so sorry to hear of your mom-in-law's illness. Be strong, Chuck will need to draw from your strength. We are all here if you need us.

Thinking of you,
Shirley
