Just heard he died!!! I loved his sense of humour and well remember the Goon Show!! Poor man, never knew his depression was due to shell shock during the war!!

Just had on a programme celebrating his life on BBC1 at 10.35, and it was funny. He was only saying the other day why dont they repeat his comedy programmes. Well Channel 4 are doing a programme on our comedy heroes, last week it was Syd James, and this week Spike, and that was before he died. A genius that gave us more pleasure than our late royal. Yes he suffered quite badly with shellshock thats what gave him his zany humour, hed seen things we hope we will never see. Well RIP Spike keep the laughter going up there will you.

Dear old Spike, I read his bioraphies on the war, incredible books, such a mixture of laughter and pathos. I love his childrens books too, we have lost a unique mind and someone who has inspired many.
