Good, I thought that would get your attention. Now that I have your attention. Those of you that have seedlings or seeds of mine may wonder what is proper protocaul concerning them. Generally, one is allowed to name them whatever you chose to name each individual one that you think is worth naming. I would suggest naming only the best one out of 500 and toss the rest or give them away or even trade them, or yes...even sell them. Other hybridizers might say to only keep the best out of 1000 for yourself to hybridize with. I would of course like to see pictures of any seedlings, leaf pattterns, flowers, and even seed pods. Now, this is what I expect to actually happen. I expect many of you to trade or sell cuttings and seedlings long before they blooom. I expect that some of you may give seedlings out to someone else and my name will no longer be attached to them. I don't mind this in the least as I am mainly concerned with seeing new and better hybrids and I don't care who creates them or gets credit. Otherwise, I wold not give out all of the seed I don't personally germinate. Other hybridizers on the other hand would be deeply insulted if you were to give out seeds or seedlings from their hybrids and not tell have them properly labeled as to who actually put the pollen onto a cross or such...ie not giving the hybridizer their proper dues.
Free seeds!!!
glad to know for sure what's what. I have so many of your seeds planted it's not funny anymore:) Hope the well doesn't run dry!! oh, and I'm bringing Isabella x Frosty Pink seedlings to the roundup in June, if I can keep them potted that long!
You Stinker, where're the seeds lol. Brugman, i am glad you feel that way. makes life easier and sweeter, and you have passed on your feeling on this i think, which is why you are our fearless leader. i hope this makes sense.
Eric,
I have some of your seeds that I have planted. Maybe 50 - just guessing. If there is something special about the ones that germinate, bloom and set seed pods, I will definitely send you pictures. Regarding naming them . . I don't want to do that. If you think a plant is worthy, I would send it to you and you can do the naming. It would not be my cross and therefore it would not have any meaning to me personally. If and when I name a cross, it will be my own. I do not want credit for something that I did not do and when one names a plant, I think they are taking credit. I don't mind helping germinating seeds although I cannot germinate hundreds, but I do think everyone helping does add up to hundreds and thousands. You are obviously very knowledgeable and many look up to you with admiration. I will support and help you in any way that I can.
Just remember other hybridizers would skin you alive for giving out any of their seeds or seedlings they had entrusted you to grow.
the seeds i am curious to see what they will be are two of your seedlings that set seed...expecting something good out of them, even though they are hussies.
Brugman,
I have all my seeds marked who they came from and in the case that one should be something special I sure will contact the person it came from. This is what I did with Whiskers....I sent the hybridizer a cutting and asked if naming it Whiskers was ok.
I have mine marked with hybridizer too.
I have mosst of mine marked but some of the labels fell off.
What seeds I have received I have also marked as to whom they came from. If I am lucky enough to a have a special one that person will be notified.
Mine are marked too - But Arlene?? Which are the hussies?? Might have to move them away from Charles Grimaldi etc????
