Need help with "Peruvain Daffodils"

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

I have to admit that I went to Wal-Mart yesterday and went crazy buying bulbs! When I got home I started reading the how to's of each package, and I noticed on the "Peruvain Daffodils" that they have to be planted in the fall! so that they will bloom in mid summer of the following year. So what can I do to get them to bloom this year?? I just thought these were soo pretty and I couldn't resist them...guess I should read before I buy huh??
Any help would be greatly appreciated *Ü*
Thanks,

This is from the Touch of Nature, Inc web site...Hymenocallis "Peruvian Daffodils are great as pot plants and contain 3-5 flowers per stem. Their lush green foliage remains attractive long after flowering. Dig and store for winter in zones 3-7."

That doesn't coincide with what your package says.

Also, from the University of Minnesota's "Prairie Yard and Garden" site, it says, "Peruvian daffodils are quite sensitive to cool temperatures, so wait until the soil is well warmed and night temperatures are above 60 before planting these bulbs."

Sounds to me like you should be planting them in the spring.

Thanks you 2!! I think that the package does have the wrong instructions on it. So Thanks for the info, or else I would have really messed them up by planting them in the fall. I think I am going to go ahead and plant them in a nice size pot and keep them in the house until the weather warms up alot more. Maybe they will make their showy appearence sooner than later.
Thanks again ya'll!

MOLLYBEE, i think what you're proposing is just what i did with mine - to give them a longer growing season i started them in the warm in the house and put them outside (still in their pot) only when it was nice and warm. Had lovely scented flowers.

Yep, I have about decided to plant them in pots in the house. I too think I will have better luck that way!
Thanks!!

Oh dear, you've reminded me how lovely they are - will have to have some of my own again. Another trip to the garden centre (or is that center ;->)

I saw some at WallyWorld too, and noticed the instructions indicated to plant in the fall. I guess I'll stop by to get one.

Yep Tim, That is where I bought mine at! and mine read's the same way...plant in the fall!! But I trust my friends here to guide me in the right direction, of planting them now. That is exactly what I have done too, I planted them outside today. I simply can't wait to see these beautiful flowers bloomed out!!

What's your climate MB? (Haven't worked out your zones yet) Couldn't put mine outside here until late May/June. They like it HOT ;-)

I am in zone 7 and right now we are having some fairly warm weather. But I am pretty sure we are going to have a few more cold snaps before the true spring weather really sets in. So all I can do now is keep my finger's crossed and hope for the best.
