New Here, First season with Brugs

Hello Everyone,

Just this winter I recieved some cuttings from some wonderful garden friends and for the most they are doing ok.
Some got taken over by those mean spider mites , but since that epidose the remainder are doing fine.

In fact a couple ( have about 8 ) are about a foot tall now with lots of leaves.

Was thinking about getting some seeds to try, anyone have any thoughts of how difficult they are to grow from seed and how big they get the first season from seed.
( Seeds are always for sale on ebay)

I haven't grown a lot from seed, but my feelings on this are that if you can get seed in early fall and grow them over the winter, you will have bloom the next year. Since you live in Zone 5, starting some now would not get you bloom outside this year. Been there, done that. However, if you can get some seed and have room to get them started and don't mind nice lush foliage with no bloom this year, you will have some nice plants for blooming the next year. If you are extremely lucky, you might get a bloom or two this late fall, but not likely. Wish I had some seed to send you, but I'm just going to start trying to make crosses this summer. That will probably make any seed that I get very late in maturing. Good luck.

Hi PoppySue,

Thanks for the warm welcome!! I look forward to learning more about Brugs from everyone.
Can't wait to see my first blooms, I am told they will take my breathe away and the smell is great.
When I first found Daturas I was amazed( Screamed for my husband to come see this flower in bloom when my double purple datura bloomed), so the thought of having a bloom even larger than that is wonderful

Hello agian, to Everyone,

I think at least my husband is getting to understand how addicting plants are in my life.

Just started 18 seed trays of daturas, cannas and a few other stuff and of course my Brugs.

He is getting worried about the eight I have growing, knowing how large they can get.
Wont they look nice up near the gazebo in full bloom
OH I CAN NOT WAIT!!!!!!!!!

Chat with you all later,

Welcome Crystal. I know you will enjoy the forum here. I've started many of my datura's as well. I'm now growing brug's from seeds and I just started growing brug cuttings back in November. I must say the people on this forum have been great to me, both in terms of advice as well as sharing seeds.

Hope you enjoy this forum.

Welcome Crys,
You will absolutely love this site. Anything that you want to know about brug growing you will find it here. I joined DG's in January and you would not believe all that I have learned. The people here are great. I would recommend that you go back and read previous posts because there is a wealth of information regarding pests, propagation, pollination and much more. In less than two months, I have a stack of paper 3-4 inches thick with info.
